Biden Is Too Old for Second Term, Nearly 8 in 10 Americans Say – The American Spectator

A new poll shows that an astonishing 77 percent of Americans believe that President Joe Biden is too old to serve another term. Age concerns about the president, who will be 81 years old on Election Day in 2024, even transcend party lines, with 89 percent of Republicans and 69 percent of Democrats sharing worries that Biden’s age is hindering his ability to lead effectively.

The poll, released today by the Associated Press and the National Opinion Research Center, also asks its 1,165 respondents what words immediately come to mind when they think of Biden. Forty-one percent of all respondents describe the president using words such as “old,” “outdated,” “aging,” “elderly,” “slow,” “confused” and “bumbling.”

By contrast, only around half of the respondents — 71 percent of Democrats and 28 percent of Republicans —  have similar concerns about former President Donald Trump, who will turn 78 next year. The poll finds that the most common words used to describe Trump are “corrupt,” “criminal,” “crooked,” “liar,” “dishonest” or “untrustworthy.”

Concerns about Biden’s age also persist across age groups. While more than 70 percent of respondents below 30 and above 60 years of age view Biden as too old to serve another four years, over eight in 10 respondents between 30 and 44 and between 45 and 59 think so.

Age-related questions have long dogged Biden, a phenomenon amplified by a series of gaffes before and throughout his presidency. But when asked in April about his age, the president said, “It doesn’t register with me. But the only thing I can say is that one of the things that people are going to find out is, they’re going to see a race, and they are going to judge whether or not I have it or don’t have it.”

Former President Ronald Reagan, who also faced inquiries about his age during his 1984 reelection campaign, famously quipped, “I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience.”

Voters will have to decide once again what age is too old to be the leader of the free world.
