Acoustic guitarist to make his debut at Oxford venue | Entertainment News

OXFORD — Syracuse-based acoustic guitarist Loren Barrigar will make his debut at 6 On The Square in Oxford at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.

According to a media release, Barrigar started playing guitar when he was 4 years old, and by the time he was 6, played the Chet Atkins hit “Yakety Axe” in front of thousands of country music fans at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He went on to study with Jimmy Atkins (Chet’s brother), which led to a touring career with his family band from Nashville to Las Vegas. Since settling down in Central New York, he has been in constant demand as a studio musician.

Barrigar’s songwriting skills have launched his melodies on the TV shows “ER” and “The Young and The Restless” as well as a Christmas CD with BB King and Patti Labelle. He has performed with some of the best acoustic players in the world, including Stephen Bennett, Richard Smith, John Knowles, Muriel Anderson and Tommy Emmanuel. He has also recorded with multiple Grammy Award winner and legendary producer Lloyd Maines.

In 2010, Barrigar made a guest appearance at The Chet Atkins Appreciation Society in Nashville with his pickin’ pal from New Zealand, Mark Mazengarb. His solo concerts include favorite songs from seven decades, as well as his originals.

He’ll be joined onstage by his son, L.J. Barrigar.

Tickets are $20 in advance and will be $25 at the door. They may be purchased online at 6onthesquare.org. Call 607-843-6876 to make a reservation. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
