Al Woods visits Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, but no deal done yet
Another potential veteran defensive tackle paid a visit to the Browns on Tuesday. Whether or not it results in a deal remains to be seen.
A league source confirmed that Al Woods, who’s spent the last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, completed a visit with the Browns. It had been previously reported that Woods was going to be visiting Cleveland — as well as the New York Jets — this week, but the exact day was not known.
Woods would provide the Browns with another veteran in their defensive tackle group, a position which they have targeted with multiple moves this offseason. Their big free-agent signing was of former Minnesota Viking Dalvin Tomlinson, while they also added ex-Raider and 49er Maurice Hurst Jr. and former Cowboy and Cardinal Trysten Hill.
In the former 2010 fourth-round pick out of LSU, the Browns would be getting a player who has played in 155 career games over 12 seasons with five different teams. Woods has played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010), Seahawks (2011, 2019, 2021-21), Pittsburgh Steelers (2012-13), Tennessee Titans (2014-16) and Indianapolis Colts (2017-18).
It’s been during his second stint with Seattle where Woods has had a bit of a career renaissance. Despite opting out of the 2020 COVID season, he has played in 44 games with 35 starts since returning to the Seahawks in 2019.
Woods’ last two seasons — 30 games, all starts — have seen him accumulate 89 combined tackles, including 53 solos stops, with nine tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and nine quarterback hits. Last season, he had 39 combined tackles, including 27 solo, with five tackles for loss and two sacks in 14 regular-season games, plus one tackle in Seattle’s NFC Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Over his 155-game career, Woods has recorded 293 combined tackles, including 162 solo and 28 tackles for loss. He has nine sacks, 20 quarterback hits and two career fumble recoveries.
