Newark Generals hockey wins Olentangy Orange Pioneer Classic
Miles Eckenrode scored both goals Sunday, fueling the Newark Generals hockey team in a 2-1 victory against Perrysburg to win the Pioneer Classic at Chiller North.
Aaron Johnson made 39 saves to secure the championship.
Johnson previously made 33 saves in a 5-0 shutout of Canton-Akron. Logan Williams scored twice, and Troy Johnston, Johnny Roush and Max Vanoy each scored once.
The Generals also beat Mentor in a shootout with David Link scoring in regulation and Williams and Hayden Locher in the shootout. They opened tournament play with a 5-2 victory against Olentangy Berlin.

Johnstown wins
Cody Siegfried stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists, powering Johnstown to a 47-41 victory against North Union at Ohio Dominican.
Caleb Schneider totaled 12 points and Brady Barb 11, combining for seven 3-pointers. Drew Brett added nine points for the balanced Johnnies (8-6).
