Utica’s Chinn, Heath’s Corbett named to All-Ohio football second team
COLUMBUS — Gavin Chinn made a habi thits fall of beating opposing cornerbacks to the ball and finding the end zone for the Utica football season.
The junior receiver was named to the All-Ohio Division V second team Tuesday by the Ohio Preps Sportswriters Association. Heath sophomore linebacker Connor Corbett joined him on the second team.
Chinn made 34 catches for 728 yards and 10 scores, helping Utica to three wins, the program’s most since 2015 and nearly a Division V playoff spot.
Corbett made 99 tackles, including 10 for loss, and forced three turnovers, spearheading a defense that allowed just six total points during a three-game stretch late in the season and helped send the Bulldogs to the playoffs.
Heath junior quarterback Brayden Bayles was named to the third team, throwing for 1,643 yards and nine TDs and adding 652 yards and six scores on the ground. Junior defensive lineman Daylen McIntyre was named to the honorable mention list, making 56 tackles, including 12 for loss.
Licking Valley junior quarterback Hayden Rodgers and Johnstown senior running back Nathan Sheets each were named to the third team in Division IV.
Rodgers threw for 1,872 yards and 19 TDs and added 519 yards rushing and seven scores, leading the Panthers to a playoff spot.
Sheets ran for 1,177 yards and totaled 16 TDs.
Valley senior receiver Ayden Stalnaker and juniors offensive lineman Trevor Croak and defensive Logan Workman were named to the honorable mention list. Johnstown seniors quarterback Caleb Schneider and defensive lineman Garrett Grinstead, and Lakewood junior offensive lineman Keegan Jacks joined them.
Stalnaker caught 35 passes for 894 yards and eight scores, and Croak blocked for an offense that scored at least 25 points eight times for the Panthers. Workman broke up 14 passes and made six tackles for loss.
Schneider ran for 1,315 yards and 11 TDs and threw for 451 yards and three scores for the Johnnies, and Grinstead made 43 tackles, including eight for loss. Jacks was a two-way standout in the trenches for the Lancers.
The rest of the All-Ohio honorees will be named throughout the rest of the week.
