Wrestler Jeff Hardy arrested in Florida


Former WWE standout and current All Elite Wrestling star Jeff Hardy was arrested Monday in Volusia County for driving under the influence of alcohol. It happened on I-95 when troopers pulled Hardy over after receiving calls about an impaired driver around 12:45 a.m.Sports analysts say he’s recognized as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, and he’s one half of the Hardy Boyz tag team sensation. This time marks the third DUI for Hardy in four years. The arrest report says Hardy was convicted on two other separate DUIs from March 2018 and October 2019 in North Carolina.The Florida Highway Patrol says in Monday’s case, Hardy’s performance on the exercises provided more than enough clues to arrest him for DUI.“I happen to know Jeff and his brother personally, but this isn’t personal. This is a man who made a decision at least three times now in the past 10 years to drive while impaired,” said Bill DeMott, former wrestler and founder of the Keri Anne Foundation.DeMott’s daughter Keri Anne was killed almost seven years ago by a repeat DUI offender.The charitable foundation was started by the DeMott family to honor Keri’s memory and to share her story with the goal to one day end drunk, impaired and distracted driving.According to the arrest report, when FHP caught up to Hardy, he was merging from I-4 onto northbound I-95 in a Dodge Charger that was “traveling significantly under the speed limit, weaving across travel lanes and running off the shoulder of the roadway.””(His) license is revoked, so we’d like to know, how did he get the rental car? Who allowed him to use the rental car, and why is he driving?” DeMott said.The report also says Hardy was “unsteady on his feet, reeked of the odor of an alcoholic beverage and was confused.” In speaking with Hardy, it was revealed to police that he had been drinking earlier in the day, according to the report. Hardy was arrested just before 10 a.m. Monday.“When does it become important? Hardy had a driving restriction that required him to have an interlock device in his vehicle, which the rental vehicle did not have.
