Murphy on 97.1 The Fan discussing Buckeye hoops departures, transfers, pro day, more

Technically, neither of the marquee Ohio State sports are in-season right now. The Buckeye football team hasn’t played a game since Jan. 1 in the Rose Bowl and the Scarlet and Gray basketball team was bounced from the NCAA Tournament last week. But that doesn’t mean things have slowed down for either team.

Ohio State football is set to enter its third week of spring practice on Tuesday ahead of next month’s spring game. The Buckeyes men’s basketball team has a very important offseason that is now underway and there are decisions to be made when it comes to players leaving for the NBA, players coming in via the transfer portal and coaches coming and going.

These Scarlet and Gray sports never sleep.

Our team writer Patrick Murphy was on 97.1 The Fans for his weekly appearance on The Buckeye Show on Friday, joining hosts Timmy Hall and Jensen Lewis. Patrick helped break down the last with both Scarlet and Gray teams and give his thoughts on each going forward.

Topics included:

  • If Patrick is more on the football front now with spring practice in gear or still thinking basketball after Ohio State was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament
  • Appreciating what EJ Liddell brought to the Buckeyes over the last
  • What would make Malaki Branham come back to the Scarlet and Gray for a sophomore year or does he strike while the iron is hot and go to the NBA?
  • The kind of player Ohio State hoops would like to find in the transfer portal this offseason to help rebuild this roster for 2022-23
  • Impressions from the Buckeye pro day and who helped themselves the most in the eyes of the NFL personnel that were at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center
  • What each of the guys is sipping on when it comes to beer this weekend
