Top Performers: Ohio Under Armour Regional

Alpha Dog:

West Bloomfield (Mich.) junior offensive lineman Amir Herring earned an invite to the 2023 Under Armour All-America Game. It was well deserved. This was the second year in a row where we do not remember him losing a rep and some of the ones that he won were about as clear of a win as you can get in a non-padded one on one situation.

Top Five Offense:

WR Anthony Brown – Springfield (Ohio): For the second straight year, Brown won positional MVP. His short area quickness allows him to create separation but he also shows excellent long speed and ability to flat out run past defenders.

WR Nick Marsh – River Rouge (Mich.): A 2024 prospect, Marsh is a physical mismatch even for older players. He is known as a contested catch guy but did not need that as much on this day as he created a lot of separation. Yes he is continuing to get faster and quicker, that is making him even harder to defend because of his existing size and physical strength.

QB CJ Carr – Saline (Mich.): Carr is one of the better 2024 quarterbacks in the country let alone the region and he held serve on that as he was very consistent, accurate, and show the ability to get the ball to any part of the field. He is very poised as well for his age. He earned an invitation to Under Armour’s 2024 All-America Game.

WR Ryan Pellum – Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan: Pellum came all the way out from California and visited Ohio State and Michigan before participating in the camp and he did not waste the trip. He was invited to the 2024 game and flashed suddenness as well as excellent hand eye coordination and sticky hands. He also earned an invitation to Under Armour’s 2024 All-America Game.

OL Austin Siereveld – Middletown (Ohio) Lakota East: Siereveld had an excellent day. He showed the same strength and physicality that we had seen on film but his ability to bend and get low in his stance was even more evident in person. That combination of strength, tenacity as well as flexibility makes him an excellent prospect.

Top Five Defense

DE Brandon Davis-Swain – West Bloomfield (Mich.): Davis-Swain had a very real argument to be the alpha. He won the majority of his reps and a couple of them were of the most impressive reps of the day for any defensive lineman. One of them was on an excellent spin move where he really showed his agility.

LB Ethan Crisp – Mount Juliet (Tenn.): It was a good group of linebackers and Crisp walked away with one of the MVP honors. His ability to play in space and cover at his size is impressive.

DE Jalen Thompson – Detroit Cass Tech: Thompson shared positional MVP honors with Davis-Swain. He was very good in drills, showing agility with his feet and quickness as well as violence with his hands and then he use that in one on one pass rush to win several of his reps.

CB Cameron Calhoun – Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods: Calhoun look to the part physically, demonstrated his athletic abilities in drills and then had an excellent one on one portion, breaking up or being in the way of several passes.

CB Jamir Benjamin – West Bloomfield (Mich.): A 2024 prospect, Benjamin actually was not one of the positional MVPs but we thought he deserved to be in there. He had really good reps in one on ones, breaking up a couple of passes and providing generally close coverage.

Other award winners and game invites

– Michigan State commit Johnathan Slack earned an invitation to the 2023 Under Armour game. The Detroit King product repped at guard and looked comfortable there. He looked much leaner and slimmed down from the season even and that looks to have produced improved quickness.

Another offensive line MVP was Cincinnati commit Evan Tengesdahl who is a strongly built player very good feet and technique.

– North Carolina commit Tad Hudson was the quarterbacks MVP. He is a big signal-caller with a powerful arm that was noticeably useful in the windy conditions.

– The QB Skills Challenge winner who hit the most targets was Pickerington (Ohio) Central 2023 Braden Mantooth, a 6-foot-5 prospect schools should be aware of.

– The tight ends MVP was Chillicothe (Ohio) 2024 Tayvion Galloway who impressed with his length as well as natural pass catching skills. Him getting this honor should not be taken lightly as he was in a loaded possession group that had several good candidates for the MVP.

– The defensive backs may have been the strongest group at the camp. The other MVPs included Belleville’s Mychal Yharbrough who was long and smooth in drills. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was very impressive. He provided take coverage in one on ones and broke up several passes. Heavily recruited 2024 Bryce West has excellent make up speed and short area quickness which he showed in drills as well as one on ones on his way to an MVP honor.

-The running backs MVPs were all from the 2023 class: Kenneth Jones from West Bloomfield (Mich.) who has two offers, Keany Parks of Kenosha (Wis.) Bradford currently awaiting his first offer, Edward Robinson of Maple Heights (Ohio) who has several offers, and 230-pound Dawaun Green from Pickerington (Ohio) North.

– In addition to Crisp, the other linebacker MVPs were Nigel Glover, who had a very good day in coverage and broke up two passes and one on ones, and Jaden Yates who also proved to be very strong in space and coverage.

Around the Camp

– One guy who we felt was very deserving of being mentioned with the above group was Cincinnati Moeller 2024 running back Jordan Marshall who flashed several times in 1-1s. Another 2024 who performed well at running back was Gabriel Winowich out of Detroit Country Day. An athlete, he could also played defense in college but was impressive on offense today and has an early Maryland offer. Tranel Engleman flashed in 1-1s as well. Jakivion Calip, who has a few offers, had a couple good 1-1 reps.

– Other linebackers who also did well in the 1-1s were Jeremiah Beasley, a 2024 from Belleville (Mich.), and Cincinnati commit Trevor Carter in the 23 class. Jabari Mitchell from Reynoldsburg (Ohio) also had good 1-1 reps.

– Other wide receivers who deserve mention are Southfield A&T’s 2024 Tashi Braceful and Cincinnati Moeller’s Tennel Bryant whose straight-line speed made him a tough cover for DBs. Javien Brownlee showed quickness in drills. Ryne Shackelford is a really good athlete who looked good in the gauntlet and made some plays in 1-1s. R.J. Mukes III made several really nice grabs in 1-1s. Shawn Thigpen is a smooth, sure-handed prospect who has a couple offers. We also liked TJ McWilliams from Indiana who has a few offers including a Purdue offer. Ardell Banks from Ohio is a taller receiver who runs well at his size and might be on the under-offered side right now.

Of the underclassmen receivers, Dorian Brew was one of the more talented freshman on the field at any position and his teammate Dalin Wilkins in 2024 is a big, physical prospect with several offers. River Rouge’s Jaylen Watson is a very quick player with the suddenness to create separation. JJ Sebert from Olentangy Liberty is a fast 2024 who played quarterback for his school but looked good as a receiver. Jerrae Hawkins is a quick slot who flashed in 1-1s. He is from West Virginia and holds two early offers. Eric Slater is a big 2025 from Michigan who made a nice grab in 1-1s. He has an early Central Michigan offer.

One taller receiver who made a juggling catch that we looked up was Christopher Henry Jr., only a 2026 and son of former NFL receiver Chris Henry. Toledo commit Sam Smith was a big receiver who multiple 247 staff members had down as a notable performer.

– A prospect that was right there with the MVPs in the loaded DB group was Jermaine Mathews from Winton woods who has a long list of college offers and it was easy to see why based on his competitiveness and change of direction which helped him in playing man. Recent West Virginia commit Josiah Jackson and his twin brother Jordan Jackson also made a lot of plays. Jordan has been recruited by some schools as a running back but competed on defense in this camp. Braedyn Moore is sifting through several major offers and it was easy to see why with his size, coverage ability and ball skills. He had a pick in one-on-ones. Terhyon Nichols was another Ohio 2023 DB who seemed to always be winning his one on one reps. Isaiah Birl is a 2023 safety from Ohio with a longer list of offers who flashed in one-on-ones including a nice PBU. Zyers Ruff is a sleeper 23 from Michigan who had a pick and PBU in 1-1s. Lorenzo Williams and Javen Sewell are two more Michigan 23s who had good reps.

2024 prospect Jacob Oden is physical, strong, and won the one-on-one reps of his that we saw. Rayshaun Hester from Clinton Township (Mich.) Chippewa Valley had some good reps in 1-1s. Other 2024s to know are Aaron Scott, Mike Smith, Taebron Bennie-Powell and Cameron Frazier, all from Ohio and all FBS offer-prospects. We also liked JT Haskins, a longer 2024 from…
