Late Bobcat Rally Stuns Flashes

ATHENS, OH-  The Ohio Bobcats scored three in the seventh and one more in the eighth to rally past the Golden Flashes on Sunday, 8-7, in the finale of the four-game set.

Sunday could not have started better for the Flashes. Aidan Longwell and Michael McNamara kept up their strong weekends with two-run homers in the first, as the Flashes raced out to a 4-0 lead. Longwell struck again an inning later with a run-scoring single and added one more on a wild pitch to grab a 6-0 lead.

The Bobcats got on the board against left Eric Chalus in the third, scoring three times. Chalus pitched well for the Flashes in his first collegiate start, going five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out four. Ohio tied it in the seventh, using a two-out,  two-run double and a run-scoring single to knot the game at seven. A solo homer an inning later capped the comeback.

Longwell and Kyle Jackson paced the offense on Sunday, each posting three-hit games, with Longwell driving in four and Jackson scoring a pair of runs. The loss drops Kent State to 6-9 on the season and 2-4 in the MAC. It will be a busy road week for the Golden Flashes with their first mid-week game of the season on Wednesday at Pitt. First pitch is at 3 p.m. and will air on ACC Network Plus.
