ATHENS, Ohio – The Central Michigan men’s basketball team suffered one of its worst shooting nights of the season on Tuesday in falling at Ohio, 76-50, in a Mid-American Conference game at the Bobcats’ Convocation Center.

The Chippewas are 6-19, 5-9 MAC and are scheduled to play an important MAC game at Miami (Ohio) on Thursday (7 p.m.).

CMU and the RedHawks are locked in a battle for a spot in the MAC Tournament. Miami is 6-10 in league play and is seventh in the league standings; CMU is eighth, percentage points behind, while Northern Illinois is ninth at (5-11).

The top eight teams earn a tournament bid.

The Chippewas made just 31.3 percent of their field goal attempts and were 4-for-22 from 3-point range for 18.2 percent. Both percentages are their second worst of the season.

The defending league-tournament champion Bobcats improved to 23-5 and share the MAC lead at 14-3.

Ralph Bissainthe scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Chippewas, while Kevin Miller and Brian Taylor added 11 points each.

The Chippewas never warmed up from the floor as they missed 10 of their first 11 field goal attempts and made just 24.2 percent from the floor in the first half.

The Bobcats suffered their own shooting woes early but crept away to a double-digit lead with under three minutes to play in the half. They led 33-22 at the break and started the second half with an 11-2 surge for a 44-24 lead with 16 minutes to play. CMU never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
