Road conditions, snow emergencies and closures


CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 Weather Team is tracking some lingering snow showers Friday, but most of the day will be about cleaning up and digging out.

The Ohio Department of Transportation says a big challenge has been blowing snow.

We’re keeping you informed with live updates on snow emergencies, road conditions, closures and how this storm may impact you in the blog below.

8:45 a.m.

  • Holmes County has been downgraded to a level 2 snow emergency. Check the list here.
  • The right lane is blocked on I-90 East at I-90, due to a crash.

8:30 a.m.

  • ODOT reports 1,300 crews remain on the road.
  • The Akron Zoo is closed today, Feb. 4, due to the winter weather conditions.

8 a.m.

  • RTA reports up to 30 minutes delays on the Red Line, throughout the line.
  • Due to the inclement weather, there will be no sanitation pick-up in Canton on Friday, February 4. Collections will be delayed one day and will be picked up on Saturday, February 5.

7:45 a.m.

Lake Metroparks park buildings will be closed Friday. Staff will work to clear the parking lots. The parks will be open.

7:30 a.m.

  • Lorain City Schools will be closed Friday.
  • Rocky River’s refuse collection Friday will be postponed until Saturday, February 5th.
  • FirstEnergy reports only 7 customers are without power.

7:15 a.m.

The Winter Storm Warning expired at 7 a.m. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of Northeast Ohio through 12 p.m.

Crash reports:

  • The right lane is blocked on I-90 East at I-90, due to a crash.
  • The right lane is blocked on I-480 West beyond SR-94/State Rd to US-42/Ridge Rd, due to a crash.
  • The 2 right lanes are blocked on I-480 East beyond SR-252/Great Northern Blvd to SR-17 To SR-237/Grayton Rd, due to a crash.

6:55 a.m.

  • FirstEnergy reports less than 2 dozen people without power.
  • Medina Co. sheriff says the area will remain at a level 2 snow emergency after consulting with road crews. Check the list here.

6:35 a.m.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is delaying its opening until noon today, Friday, February 4, due to inclement weather.

6:30 a.m.

The website Flight Aware says there are 4 delays Friday at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and 56 cancelations.

6:15 a.m.

Greater Cleveland RTA says due to road conditions, bus, rail and paratransit are experiencing delays. HealthLine 11, 14, and 15 will be rerouted. You can call (216)621-9500 for updates.

FOX 8 crews saw some buses stuck earlier this morning.

6 a.m.

  • Rumpke in Westlake has canceled rubbish/recycling collection for Friday routes due to poor weather conditions.
  • ODOT reports 1300 crews are working to clear the roads across the state.

5:45 a.m.

5:30 a.m.

FOX 8 crews saw a semi-truck stuck on the highway in Lorain. FOX 8 crews say the ramps are in bad shape.

5:15 a.m.

Snow totals so far:

4:50 a.m.

Erie County is under a level 3 snow emergency. County offices will be closed.

4:45 a.m.

FOX 8 crews found several RTA buses stuck in downtown Cleveland. RTA is not reporting any delays at this time.

  • Fewer than 500 FirstEnergy customers are without power Friday morning.
  • Lake County Recorder is closed Friday.
  • Garfield Heights Municipal Courts will also be closed.
