Parkhurst elected president of Medina school board

MEDINA, Ohio — The Medina Board of Education has started the new year off with several new board members and by swearing in a new president.

Rebecca Parkhurst was elected board president at Monday’s school board meeting (Jan. 10).

“I would like to take a moment just to thank everyone who worked and voted to re-elect me to another term on the board,” said Parkhurst, who was re-elected in November.

“I am grateful for the support and confidence from the community, and it truly has been a privilege and an honor to serve the last six-and-a-half years, and I am excited and looking forward to the next four.”

Superintendent Aaron Sable also took a moment to thank some people, as January is School Board Recognition Month.

“We have (two) new members on our board who are just starting to serve, so I’d like to thank you for the work to come,” said Sable. Joe Nichols and Jeanne Pritchard were elected in November along with Parkhurst.

Sable shared that the board has been so wrapped up in dealing with COVID-19, as they’ve needed to be, in order to provide a safe environment for staff and students in the district. Sable said he is proud of the work the board has been able to do despite the pandemic.

“I am hopeful that, as a board, we have the opportunity to really be focused on academics and education,” said Sable.
