Area residents are co-inventors for new patent
Step2 Co. of Streetsboro, has been assigned a patent developed by three co-inventors for “rotary molding systems and components thereof.” The co-inventors are Matthew C. Brokaw of Bellville, Eric Jay Miller of Loudonville and Richard Howard Goff Jr., Hartville.
According to the patent, conventional rotary molding systems include a spider that surrounds at least one mold housing and is attached to spindle which is rotated and heated in an oven during a molding process. The inventors created a method to make disassembly of the spider easier.
Local lawmakers named Champions of Business by Ohio Chamber
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Marilyn John (R-Shelby) and Sen. Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) are among more than six dozen lawmakers named as 2021 Champions of Business by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
Legislators who achieved this distinction have done so by scoring at least 80 percent on the Ohio Chamber 2021 score card, which consists of key votes taken by the legislators that impact the business community and sponsorship of legislation that hinders or bolster’s Ohio’s business climate.
Of the 132 members of the Ohio Legislature, 75 members scored at least 80 percent, with 32 of them scoring 100 percent.
The Ohio Chamber is the state’s leading business advocate and represents thousands of companies that do business in Ohio.
Galion Building and Loan donates calculators to Galion sixth grade students
GALION — Galion Building and Loan Bank continued its support of education in the Galion community with its donation of calculators to the Galion Middle School Dec. 7. This is the 30th year the bank has made the donation to sixth grade students.
The board of directors, along with the bank’s President Don Barr, chose to form a partnership with Galion Middle School in 1992. The goal has been to have a positive impact on the education of every student at GMS.
The students received a Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS calculator, which is the official Ohio Graduation Test calculator.
The calculators were distributed to students at a brief presentation assembly at GMS. Each calculator is engraved with the student’s name and is affixed with a sticker that includes the bank’s name and a statement declaring the bank’s concern about the education of our youth.
Galion Building and Loan Bank has distributed 6180 calculators to Galion students since 1992.
In addition to the annual donation of calculators, Galion Building and Loan Bank also does a yearly presentation to all Galion first grade students on “Teach Children to Save Day.” Students receive a Billy Buck piggy bank and learn about the importance of saving money during the presentation. The bank also has supported Junior Achievement in the Galion City Schools by sending volunteers into classrooms to teach children about business.
Firelands Electric Co-Op announces December winners of The A Team
Firelands Electric Cooperative is announced the winners of The A Team drawing for December.
Haley McNaull is an eighth grader at Ashland Middle School and the daughter of Greg and Julie McNaull. Alexandra Cutlip is the daughter of Bill and Connie Cutlip and is a sixth grader at Crestview Middle School. Abbie Bores, a sixth grader at Monroeville Schools, is the daughter of Paul and Jamie Bores.
Sponsored by Firelands Electric, The A Team recognizes students in grades 6-8 who had a minimum of three A’s on their most recent report card. Applicants must also reside in a home served by the co-op. Students who submit a qualifying report card are entered into a drawing held at the end of each grading period.
Three winners are randomly selected at each drawing to receive an Amazon gift card and are recognized in Ohio Cooperative Living magazine and on Firelands’ website and social media outlets.
