Director Lingusamy’s production house Thirrupathi Brothers, which produced the Kamal Haasan-starrer Utthama Villain, has issued a statement clarifiying that the film they had produced on a first copy basis had made them incur huge losses. Director Lingusamy’s production house Thirrupathi Brothers has clarified that the film, Utthama Villain, featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead and directed by Ramesh Aravind, was a flop and that it had made them incur huge losses.
The production house issued the clarification in the wake of a claim that was made on a popular YouTube channel that director Lingusamy had said that the film was a hit.
Taking to social media site X to post the clarification regarding the film it produced and which eventually released in 2015, the firm said Utthama Villain was not a hit film, but instead, was a film that made the production house incur huge financial losses.
The post also had a video in which producer-director Lingusamy is seen speaking to filmmaker Chitra Lakshmanan about his experience of making the film, and the problems he had to face.
In its statement, the firm said that it had made films like Thirrupathi, Paiyyaa, Vettai, Ivan Vera Mathiri, Kumki, Goli Soda, Manjapai, Sathuranga Vettai and Rajini Murugan and that all these movies had done well, but Utthama Villain, which was produced on a First-Copy basis, was a financial loss for the company.
The production house pointed out that this was something that Kamal himself was aware of and along with his late brother Chandrahaasan, had assured the production house dates to do another film together to make up for the losses incurred as a result of Utthama Villain.
“Under these circumstances, a false claim about director Lingusamy saying that Utthama Villain was a profitable film was made on YouTube channel Valaipechu. This is highly condemnable. We request netizens not to spread such false information on the Internet.”

To supplement this statement, the post also included a video in which Lingusamy is seen speaking about his experience of making the film, where he clearly mentions that Utthama Villain was indeed a financial failure.
