VIDEO: Student’s Victory After Kicked Out of Class for Gadsden Flag – The American

A 12-year-old student in Colorado was kicked out of class for sporting a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack. The story went viral, sparking outrage and support for the student’s First Amendment rights.

The school falsely claimed that the Gadsden flag was tied to “origins of slavery.” The actual meaning of the flag is “don’t tread on me,” and it originated during the American Revolution. It promotes freedom and opposes government overreach— which has nothing to do with slavery.

The student and his mother were successful against the school’s discipline attempts. The Vanguard School Board held an emergency meeting, after which the members released a statement allowing the student to attend class with the Gadsden flag patch visible.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis responded on X, formerly Twitter, saying: “The Gadsden flag is a proud symbol of the American revolution and an iconic warning to Britain or any government not to violate the liberties of Americans. It appears on popular American medallions and challenge coins through today and Ben Franklin also adopted it to symbolize the union of the 13 colonies. It’s a great teaching moment for a history lesson!”
