Give Them Nothing on Dianne Feinstein’s Replacement – The American Spectator

Conservative meme-makers are getting a decade in jail for making fun of Democrat voters, a former president has been indicted for behavior that is most certainly not a crime, there are SWAT raids against pro-life activists while Antifa loons burn down pregnancy care centers and don’t get caught because they act at night (not kidding; that’s an actual justification given by our brilliant attorney general), and it’s an accepted fact in conservative circles that in blue cities run by Soros-funded district attorneys and mayors anyone not a member of pet Democrat constituencies cannot and will not be treated with due respect from the law.

That’s America in 2023. Everybody knows it. We all see society breaking down, and we all know who’s responsible. And on the conservative side, we know it isn’t us.

Those weren’t Republicans engaged in a full-scale riot in Chicago over the weekend that was not just excused but actively defended by that city’s new radical communist mayor. Those aren’t Republicans in San Francisco shutting down Whole Foods and Walgreens stores. And it isn’t Republicans who are milling about Los Angeles, Austin, and other cities in what looks a lot like a zombie apocalypse fueled by fentanyl and heroin — it isn’t even Republicans sitting by and letting that happen.

No. It’s the Democrat Party and the hardcore Left driving our national dissolution. We’re so unmoored from the America we know that we can barely even see it from here.

And if this doesn’t enrage you, if you don’t hold a grudge against the people tearing your country apart with insane policies, worse culture, and indefensible economics — in California they want to institute a Leninist policy on electric rates, basing them on income — then you must not be able to fog a mirror.

You should be furious at the people actively destroying America as founded. Civil wars have been fought on the basis of less agitation than the American Left has been guilty of over the past 20 years. Countries to our south have instituted a program of free helicopter rides for less radical activity than goes on in most blue states and cities.

Nobody is suggesting such a course of action, but here’s a small proposal: let’s not cooperate with Democrats who want to bounce the vegetative Dianne Feinstein off the Senate Judiciary Committee so that they can further destroy the federal bench.

Feinstein shouldn’t have run for reelection in 2018. The California state Democrat Party withheld its endorsement and ended up giving it to somebody else. That was a good indication she’d been in office too damn long. Now she’s barely even alive and certainly not capable of discharging duties as a member of the Senate.

Which is probably true of six or eight of her colleagues, the Senate being what it is nowadays. John Fetterman is mostly dead as well and certainly not capable of serving as a senator, and this was known before he was elected last year. Democrat voters in Pennsylvania didn’t care — they reelected a state legislator who’d been in the ground for weeks, and the state party bragged about it.

These people have no standards, no ethics. All they care about is power. A Dianne Feinstein who’s mostly dead and can’t serve in the Senate is a problem for them because she’s on the Senate Judiciary Committee and they need her vote to move unqualified members of our legal system into seats on the federal bench.

People like this…

With Feinstein around, there are enough votes on that committee to move people who can’t answer basic questions about federal law and the Constitution out of that committee and onto the Senate floor where weak Republicans tend to give them a smile and a wave on their way to the federal bench.

But without her, the whole thing grinds to a halt.

She’s 89 and she has dementia that makes Joe Biden look like a Cambridge debate champion. And for the last six weeks, she’s been absent thanks to a case of shingles.

Her party has had it and they want her out. They’re screaming about it. Ro Khanna, a hard-left congressman from Silicon Valley, is demanding that she resign so the confirmation train can get back on the tracks.

Khanna’s probably right about what the Democrats need to happen, but Feinstein’s staffers are dug in like ticks, and they’re going to hold on to their jobs and the power those jobs confer as long as they can. And so while Dianne Feinstein barely knows what planet she’s on at this point and is barely more sentient than those fentanyl zombies wobbling around the rapidly blighting streets of San Francisco, where she was mayor all those years ago, they’re not willing to discuss her resignation.

At least not yet.

Chuck Schumer, who’s the Senate majority leader, would like to replace her on Judiciary — at least until such time as she “returns” to duty, something which would require a pretty low standard of action given her current condition. Feinstein’s staffers, speaking on her behalf, think that’s an acceptable answer.

Except changing committee assignments isn’t just something Schumer can do. That’s done at the beginning of a congressional term. Changing them now requires 60 votes.

And there are enough Republicans, if the wimps and surrender-junkies can be talked down from the ledge, to put a stop to any change in Feinstein’s committee assignments. There aren’t nine Mitt Romneys.

At least, we don’t think there are.

If ever there was a time for the GOP to start fighting this cold civil war we’re seeing play out on the streets of the blue cities and the federal courthouses and Merrick Garland’s email inbox, it’s right now.

Just vote no. Just keep Feinstein where she is. Force her to resign and then watch Gavin Newsom, the obnoxious incompetent squatting in the governor’s mansion of that failed state, follow through on his promise to replace her with a black woman.

Barbara Lee, the congresswoman from the slums of Oakland and their environs, is already running for Feinstein’s seat in next year’s elections. Newsom can appoint Lee and fulfill his promise. When he does, he’ll infuriate half the state’s Democrats in the congressional delegation and that might just complicate Newsom’s fledgling efforts to run for the Democrats’ 2024 presidential nomination.

Either that, or he breaks that promise and perhaps loses the black vote. Which likely means he’ll crash and burn in next year’s primaries.

Anybody on the Republican side who helps the Democrats out of this thicket for the purpose of allowing more anti-American, anti-constitutional intersectional-identitarian clowns onto the federal bench isn’t just a coward and a moron, he or she is a traitor.

Frankly, there is no amount of consideration the Democrats could offer that would make giving them a vote in favor of cloture on a reassignment of the Judiciary Committee’s membership an acceptable answer.

Don’t negotiate. Don’t say yes. Make Feinstein resign and put all of her staffers out of a job, and make Newsom hang himself on his own petard.

This is easy stuff. It requires zero brains. Which means the Senate Republicans might actually be able to not screw it up.

Let’s see what they do, and let’s remember who the weaklings are when it all comes down.
