Travis sets Granville softball career home run record

Granville’s Emily Travis became the Blue Aces’ career leader in home runs Wednesday, slugging her 18th in a 15-3 Licking County League crossover win at Utica.

Travis smacked a two-run homer and two singles with three RBIs for the Blue Aces (7-2, 4-1), while Megan Lodge added a solo blast, double and single with two RBIs, and Taylor Warehime had a two-run homer. Morgan Layne contributed two singles and three RBIs, Avary King three singles and two RBIs and Hanah Rogovin three singles with an RBI. Ally Ernsbeger pitched four innings in relief for the win.

Lauren Schmitt drilled a solo home run for the Redskins (1-7, 0-5).

Jackson hits for cycle

Jaylen Jackson slammed a two-run homer, triple, double and single Wednesday, driving in three runs and hitting for the cycle as host Newark drubbed Pickerington Central 14-3 in the Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division.

Alasandra Spears homered and doubled with three RBIs for the Wildcats (8-5), while Dez Osler had a two-run triple, Maleah Morris added two singles with an RBI, and Sarah Sickels and Mal Back each had RBI singles and Syncere Royster struck out seven in six innings to get the win.

Walters fans 19

Macy Walters mowed down 19 Licking Valley hitters on strikes in a two-hitter Wednesday, and Johnstown rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to nip the visiting Panthers 2-1 in an LCL crossover game.

Walters also doubled and singled and drove in both runs for the Johnnies (7-1, 5-1).

Abbe McNabb allowed just four hits for Valley (3-4, 1-4), while Sylvie Devore had both hits and stole a base.

Watkins romps

Taylor Gerhardt went 4-for-4 with a double and three singles, knocking in two runs Wednesday as visiting Watkins Memorial downed Lakewood 13-2 in an LCL crossover contest.

Jordyn Wycuff socked a solo homer and two singles with two RBIs for the Warriors (11-0, 2-0), with McKayla Jellison driving in three runs with a double and single, Ava McKee doubled and singled with two RBIs and Kyliee Trouten added two singles and two stolen bases. Carsyn Cassady and Kendal Tellings combined on a one-hitter with Cassady striking out six in three innings.

Dani Stewart singled in a run for the Lancers (6-4, 2-3).

BASEBALL

Woodward shines

Hayden Woodward twirled a three-hitter, striking out four with no walks, as host Heath maintained its LCL-Cardinal Division lead Wednesday with a 3-0 shutout of Licking Heights.

Cooper Bradley had an RBI and Jaiden Dansby scored two runs for the Bulldogs (5-3, 4-0).

Kaleb Ribbing had two hits and Cody Czuckowitz pitched 3 1-3 innings of hitless relief for the Hornets (5-4, 3-2).

Watkins routs Lancers

Trace Hartman drove home three runs with a double and two singles Wednesday, leading visiting Watkins Memorial to a 12-2 LCL crossover win against Lakewood.

Ayden Guthrie had a single and three RBIs for the Warriors (5-4, 3-0), while Trent Johnson doubled and singled with an RBI, Chase Massie had two singles and an RBI and Cole Massie also knocked in a run. Evan Pollock fanned seven in six two-hit innings to get the victory.

Carter Flowers and Will Marrero each had an RBI for the Lancers (4-6, 3-2) and Colton Ferry stole a base.

Utica busts loose

Tyler Collura and Isaak Wogan each chased home four runs with a double and single Wednesday as host Utica whipped Granville 14-6 in an LCL crossover game.

Aidyn Burgess had a two-run double, Chase Bennett an RBI double, Jordan Hartman two singles and Gavin Chinn and Roman Gamble each doubled. Connor Staugh was winning pitcher in relief.

Ezra Kurek belted a three-run homer for the Blue Aces (4-4, 1-3), Owen Hoenie doubled and singled, Sawyer Benschoter added two singles with an RBI and Drew Cottrell also had two hits.

Valley rolls on road

Hayden Rodgers hit a solo homer and single with three RBIs, and Theo Walsh also drove in three with a double and two singles Wednesday, triggering visiting Licking Valley past Johnstown 15-8 in an LCL crossover contest.

Brenden Moore added a double and single with two RBIs for the Panthers (4-1, 3-1), while Ethan Lohr had two singles and Evan Lichtenauer an RBI hit. Carter Hartman was winning reliever.

Garrett Grinstead doubled and singled with two RBIs for the Johnnies (4-3, 2-2). Clay Bruning had a double and two RBIs, Cole Boroff two singles with an RBI, Chase Boroff a single with two RBIs, Caiden Scholl a run-scoring hit and Benji Perez doubled.
