Granville baseball outlasts River Valley for road win

Owen Hoenie finished 3-for-3 with a double and also hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning Friday, lifting the Granville baseball team to a 10-6 victory at River Valley.

Hoenie also threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the win after Nolan Tracy and Kevin Clark combined to strike out six for the Blue Aces (4-1). Tracy added three hits, a run scored and an RBI, Aaron Gutridge two hits, a run scored and two RBIs and Drew Vahalik and Jacob Culver two hits and a run scored apiece.

Newark wins at Logan

Max Durbin reached base five times, tripling and singling and scoring three runs, igniting Newark in a 9-2 victory at Logan.

Owen Poole added three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs, Bodie Smith a double, a run scored and two RBIs and Seth Fish a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Wildcats (3-2-1). Cayden Vermilion and Thomas Olon combined to strike out nine in five one-hit innings.

SOFTBALL

Lakewood rolls

Becca Streets homered and doubled, piling up four hits and four RBIs, powering Lakewood to a 17-5 victory at Olentangy. Streets also struck out seven in a six-hitter.

Rachel Crist totaled two hits, three runs scored and four RBIs for the Lancers (4-3-1). Audrey Thomas, Carly Williams and Dani Stewart added three hits and two runs scored apiece, Abby Colley two hits and three RBIs and Lauren Griffith three hits and two RBIs.

Heath cruises

Heath pounded eight extra-base hits in a 14-4 victory against Peebles at Symmes Valley. Renae Cunningham and Sydney Chapman each homered, combining for five hits, five runs scored and four RBIs for the Bulldogs (4-1), who play Ironton and defending Division III state champion Wheelersburg on Saturday at Symmes Valley

Sydney Cottrell added three hits, including two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs, Savannah Lawson three hits, a run scored and an RBI and Emma Ghiloni two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Chapman struck out five in five innings.
