Michael Woods II tears Achilles during workout, will need surgery
Michael Woods II’s NFL career has been pockmarked with injuries that have slowed him down. Now it’s feared his entire second season will be lost to another one.
A Browns spokesperson confirmed that second-year receiver Michael Woods II tore his Achilles while working out with quarterback Deshaun Watson in Houston. Woods will need surgery, which will likely cost him the entire season,
Watson has reportedly had several of the Browns’ offensive skill players visit him in Houston recently for voluntary throwing sessions. The Browns themselves can have nothing to do with said workouts.
Woods was a 2022 sixth-round pick out of the University of Oklahoma. The receiver battled through injuries throughout the offseason after being drafted, then missed a majority of training camp due to a hamstring injury.
“I think when I came back I definitely had to catch up,” Woods told the Beacon Journal prior to a Week 11 game at Miami. “I mean, I feel like in the league, it’s like a train. Once you get to step off that train, you got to catch back up. So I definitely felt like I had to catch back up but I feel like that comes with time and I feel like I can pick things up pretty quickly.”
Woods was inactive for the first five games of the season before making his NFL debut in a Week 6 loss to the New England Patriots. He would play in 10 games, amassing 155 offensive and 85 special-teams snaps.
For the season, Woods had five catches for 45 yards on 10 targets.
The Browns are scheduled to begin their voluntary offseason program in Berea on April 17. It will conclude with a mandatory minicamp on June 6-8.
