Newark’s Grant Burkholder leads Licking County’s All-Ohioans
COLUMBUS — Grant Burkholder recently capped an impressive run as a three-year starter for the Newark boys basketball team, leading the Wildcats to the Division I district championship.
Burkholder was honored for that accomplishment Thursday as he was named to the All-Ohio special mention list by the Ohio Preps Sportswriters Association. Johnstown senior Caleb Schneider and the Granville junior duo of Jase Becker and Dante Varrasso, who led the Blue Aces to a share of the Licking County League-Buckeye Division championship, each were named to the honorable mention list in Division II.
Burkholder averaged 15.9 points and 2.1 assists per game.
Schneider averaged 12.4 points per game and made 53 3-pointers at a 40% clip.
Becker averaged 12.7 points per game, shooting over 50% from the floor and 70% from the foul line. Varrasso averaged 8.4 points and 2.7 assists per game.
