Heath’s Bryce Holmes wins sectional bowling title

Bryce Holmes bowled games of 276 and 255 during a 710 series at HP Lanes on Saturday to win the Division II sectional title. Holmes helped his Heath teammates finish fifth and qualify for Wednesday’s district tournament back at HP Lanes.

Payton Love added a high game of 191 and series of 546, Josh Dover 174 and 488 and Oliver Walton 167 and 473 for the Bulldogs.

Peyton Wheeler’s 188 and 511 helped Northridge finish 12th and grab the final qualifying spot. Brody White added a 175 and 502 and Logan Hupp 171 and 483 for the Vikings.

Licking Valley’s Trevor Tucker with a 198 and 560 and Lakewood’s Stewart Poulnott’s 212 and 533 and Koda Warren’s 171 and 508 qualified as individuals.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Heath wins on road

Caroline Robertson’s two free throws with 22 seconds left helped seal Heath’s 41-38 victory at No. 8 Buckeye Valley.

Taliyah Holmes totaled 12 points and Robertson nine for the No. 9 Bulldogs (18-5), who play No. 1 Granville at 7 p.m. Wednesday at a site to be determined in a district semifinal.

Granville cruises

Ten players scored for top-seeded Granville in a 51-6 victory against visiting Whitehall in a Division II second-round game.

Harper Annarino totaled 12 points, Ava Gossman 10 and Aliyah Moore eight for the Blue Aces (22-2), who play No. 9 Heath at 7 p.m. Wednesday at a site to be determined in a district semifinal.

NC edged by Danville

Visiting Danville made 21 free throws to Newark Catholic’s four, allowing the No. 6 Blue Devils to slip past the No. 2 Green Wave for a 60-55 victory in a Division IV district quarterfinal.

Maddie Kauble led NC (18-6) with 19 points. Kylie Gibson added 18.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Valley stays hot

Gunner Bowman scored nine of his game-high 19 points in the second quarter, sparking Licking Valley in a 57-51 victory against visiting KIPP Columbus.

Kam Walker added 11 points and Owen Hottinger nine for the Panthers (10-12), who used an 18-9 advantage in the second quarter to build a lead. They won their fourth consecutive game and received five points, including a 3-pointer, from senior Colton Carr.

SWIMMING

Dutton medals

Ava Dutton placed sixth in the 100 butterfly (56.85) to lead Watkins Memorial during the Division I district meet at Ohio State’s McCorkle Pavilion.

Dutton added a 10th-place finish (2:09.18) in 200 individual medley, unofficially qualifying for next week’s state meet in both meets. Olivia Crock finished 16th in both the 200 freestyle (1:57.87) and 500 free (5:21.47), and Dutton, Crock, Sophia Lochard and Gabby Culver finished 16th in the 400 free relay (3:55.90), and Dutton, Crock, Lochard and Malena Dewhurst finished 19th in the 200 free relay (1:47.44).
