Newark Catholic girls basketball wins tournament opener
Reagan Jones scored 13 points for the Newark Catholic girls basketball team, helping the Green Wave earn a 70-17 victory against visiting Liberty Christian in a Division IV second-round game.
Kylie Gibson totaled 14 points and Kai Holmberg eight and eight rebounds for the No. 2 Green Wave (18-5), who host No. 6 Danville at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Shelby Carr’s 9 points led the No. 13 Eagles (3-17).
Granville wins
Ava Gossman’s 19 points led 10 scorers for Granville in a 72-24 victory against visiting No. 16 Marion-Franklin in a Division II first-round game.
Aliyah Moore added 15 points on five 3-pointers, Harper Annarino 10 and Katie Cottrell seven for the Blue Aces (21-2), who host No. 21 Whitehall at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Valley falls
Avery Williams’ 11 points led Licking Valley in a 55-28 loss at No. 3 Bexley in a Division II first-round game.
Rylee Hillis added eight points for the No. 15 Panthers (4-19).
Heights falls
Tori Diggs scored four points for No. 44 Licking Heights (3-20) at No. 1 Pickerington Central in a 68-8 loss in a Division I first-round game.
