Lydia Sturgeon leads Granville girls swimming to sectional title
Lydia Sturgeon had a hand in four victories Saturday, leading the Granville girls swim team to the championship during the morning Division II sectional at Columbus School for Girls.
Sturgeon won the 200 freestyle (1:58.37) and 100 backstroke (1:00.26). She also joined Hannah Hardin, Brooke Lemert and Grace Largent on the winning 200 medley relay (1:53.64) and Hardin, Lemert and Caroline Otter on the winning 400 free relay (3:43.64), qualifying to Thursday’s district meet at Ohio State.
Lemert added a win in the 500 free for the Blue Aces, who totaled 290 points, finishing ahead of CSG’s 251.
Lemert also took runner-up in the 200 free (2:00.94), Hardin second in both the 50 free (24.91) and 100 free (54.43), Largent second in the 200 individual medley (2:27.09) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.63), Sydney Lauffer third in the 200 IM (2:30.49) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.11). Largent, Lauffer, Otter and Carmen Wells placed third in the 200 free relay (1:49.82).
Northridge’s Alexandra Cannone placed fourth in the 100 free (55.78). She joined Sophia BeVier, Caitlin Fuller and Sydney Wuertzer on the third-place 200 medley relay (2:05.99) and Fuller, Wuertzer and Nicole BeVier on the fourth-place 200 free relay (1:53.23), and Fuller, Kayla Vance, Sophia BeVier and Nicole BeVier placed fourth in the 400 free relay (4:22.14).
Pribonic wins title
Isabella Pribonic won the 200 individual medley (2:10.70) for Newark Catholic during the afternoon Division II sectional at CSG.
Pribonic also took runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.55) as did Ella Schirtzinger in the 100 butterfly (1:03.15), who also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (25.94). That duo joined Gracie Collins and Hannah Cormican on the fourth-place 200 free relay (1:46.81).
Granville wins relay
Josh Remlinger, Jacob Teter, Nolan Schneider and Dakotta Baillargeon won the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.86) for Granville during the afternoon Division II sectional at Columbus Academy.
Remlinger won the 100 butterfly (54.90), and he joined Teter, Schneider and Miles on the runner-up 400 free relay (3:26.99). Teter took runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.37) as did Schneider in the 500 free (5:02.54).
Schneider added a third (2:06.02) in the 200 individual medley, and Baker, Baillargeon, Gryffin Hauenstein and Drew Bergstrom also took third in the 200 medley relay (1:48.34).
Lakewood’s Austin Masters placed second in the 50 free (22.78) and third in the 100 free (50.32). Licking Valley’s Tyler Mohler placed fifth both in the 200 free (2:01.17) and 100 free (54.26).
