Eli Morris leads Newark Catholic boys basketball past Johnstown
Eli Morris hit a trio of 3-pointers and piled up 23 points Friday, powering the Newark Catholic boys basketball team to a 62-53 victory against visiting Johnstown in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.
Braylon Bates also hit a trio of 3s, finishing with 11 points, and Bobby Franks added nine for the Green Wave, who had a 17-9 edge in the third quarter to break it open.
Brady Barb and Caleb Schneider totaled 14 points apiece, combining for six 3s, and Cody Siegfried added 10 for the Johnnies.
Newark rolls on road
Grant Burkholder’s 17 points led a balanced attack for Newark in a 64-35 victory at Groveport in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
Steele Meister added 16 points and five rebounds and Ethan Stare 14 points and six assists for the Wildcats, who outscored the Cruisers 17-5 in the second quarter.
Heath beats Lakewood
Heath jumped out to an 18-0 lead after one quarter, rolling to a 57-28 victory against visiting Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.
Jaxon Duston led the Bulldogs with 13 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers. Will Robertson and Jordan Kaminsky added 10 apiece.
Adam Crawford led the Lancers with 11 points.
Liberty falls on road
Evan Adair’s 11 points led Liberty Christian in a 63-28 loss at Tree of Life in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Newark beats Groveport
Sophie Bidwell racked up 14 rebounds and three assists in Newark’s 62-41 victory against visiting Groveport in OCC-Buckeye play.
Jenna Shackleford and Brie Gingras, who hit a trio of 3-pointers, totaled 18 points apiece for the Wildcats. Ally Carr added seven points.
