Maybe It’s Time for Republican Voters to Fire Mitch McConnell – The American Spectator

I get it. You’re busy. It’s the week before Christmas, and you have lots to do.

You shouldn’t have to worry about politics this week. And if you’re a Republican voter, you should be able to take some solace in the fact that, while the margin was awfully, pitifully small, your side did manage to win back control of the House of Representatives. That should mean that the worst of the abuses of the Biden regime is over.

Except it isn’t. While you’re out mingling with friends at Christmas parties and picking up those last-minute gifts for relatives, America’s politicians are hard at work destroying the future of your country.

You already know that federal spending amid the COVID lockdowns, which only got worse when Joe Biden assumed the presidency and partnered with the Democrat majority on Capitol Hill to shovel trillions of dollars in unneeded money out of helicopters, is what blew inflation through the roof. It was a classic case of creating worthless money, and it proved the timeless truth: Inflation is too much money chasing too few goods and services.

The Federal Reserve is ratcheting up interest rates in an effort to stanch inflation, but its chairman, Jerome Powell, keeps screaming into the wind that there is only so much he can do to stop inflation if the federal government won’t quit printing currency out of thin air.

And that Democrat majority on Capitol Hill, the one that is going away next month because Republicans will be taking over the House, has steadfastly refused to listen to Powell. Because they don’t want to stop inflation. Middle-class and working-class voters don’t vote for Democrats, and inflation destroys their household finances.

And today’s Democrats are malevolent. Their primary purpose, when it isn’t a smash-and-grab operation to get rich in government service, is to punish their political enemies. So, they do what they can to stoke inflation and punish those middle-class and working-class voters who took away their House majority.

Which brings us to the omnibus spending bill, a toxic, septic, 4,155-page monstrosity that is an egregious insult to the concepts of fiscal restraint and self-governance. It’s a $1.7 trillion man-made calamity that will very likely have the effect of pumping inflation back up closer to the double-figure mark (even in the fraudulent way it’s currently calculated) and making things like savings and home ownership all but impossible for average American families.

Make no mistake about it. This omnibus package will push the federal debt to a level that might well get us to the real debt limit — namely, the point at which investors across the globe simply refuse to buy any more U.S. Treasury debentures. That point is coming, and so is the point at which the federal government will not be able to afford to service that debt — which will be $35 trillion before the next presidential election.

Under no circumstances should that omnibus package pass. It should be filibustered and killed in the Senate. And House Republicans, who will hold the majority when the new Congress is sworn in right after the new year begins, should go through those 4,155 pages and scrub out everything in it that is objectionable or wasteful.

Which is probably half of it, if not more.

At the Daily Signal, Matthew Dickerson offers up just a taste of how stupid this spending bill is. This is what you’re funding:

The types of woke-waste line items that some Senate Republicans will help fund, unless they change their minds, include these 12 projects:

$1.2 million for “LGBTQIA+ Pride Centers” and another $1.2 million for “support services for DACA recipients” (aka helping illegal aliens with taxpayer funds) at San Diego Community College.

$477,000 for the Equity Institute in Rhode Island to indoctrinate teachers with “antiracism virtual labs.”

$1 million for Zora’s House in Ohio, a “coworking and community space” for “women and gender-expansive people of color.”

$3 million for the American LGBTQ+ Museum in New York City.

$3.6 million for a Michelle Obama Trail in Georgia.

$750,000 for “LGBT and Gender Non-Conforming housing” in Albany, New York.

$2 million for the “Great Blacks in Wax” museum in Baltimore.

$856,000 for an “LGBT Center” in New York.

$750,000 for the “TransLatin@ Coalition” to provide “workforce development programs and supportive services for Transgender and Gender nonconforming and Intersex (TGI) immigrant women in Los Angeles.”

$2 million for “MLK Labor” in Washington, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO that expelled Seattle police officers from union ranks.

$956,000 for “The Equity Incubator at the Universities at Shady Grove” in Maryland.

$791,200 for “equitable energy resilience and EV infrastructure” in Sonoma, California.

If the omnibus bill is thrown out and the new House majority is able to take control of the federal-spending bill, these things can be taken out of it. This is not to say that they will, just that there would be an opportunity to do so.

It shouldn’t be hard for the Republicans in the Senate to provide that opportunity. They just need to say no for essentially two weeks.

But Mitch McConnell is not one to say no. Not to the Democrats. McConnell is in the business of saying yes. So, you had this on Tuesday, when he signaled that he’s all aboard with a $1.7 trillion fiscal nuke aimed at America’s heart:

And what priorities are those? Well, McConnell got an orgiastic bacchanal of military spending.

For a woke Pentagon that can’t even account for more than half of the money it spends.

Oh, and this. This is how in touch Morphine Mitch is with his own voters:

The bill gives $44.9 billion in aid for the laundromat in Ukraine, which will make this year’s spending total more than we ever spent in a year on Afghanistan.

And McConnell thinks that is the No. 1 priority for Republican voters.

How about the border? What’s in the omnibus for that? Well:

Oh.

There is a lot more in this bill. This column could go on and on about it, but I’m going to get to the point.

Which is that McConnell sabotaged Republican Senate candidates who actually represent the wishes of GOP voters by disparaging them as unworthy and then by making decisions on campaign spending that hamstrung them against better-funded Democrats. All of those candidates were outspent 2–1, 3–1, and worse while McConnell was wasting millions of dollars in a Republican-on-Republican race in Alaska. He did this to hang on to his Senate caucus position. At the expense of the American people. And now Morphine Mitch gets to be the enabler of Team Biden, so long as he gets his cut.

It’s time for Republican voters to stand up and burn this down.

Perhaps what should happen is a petition, circulated perhaps by state Republican Party operations, that holds that GOP voters will go on an electoral strike for 2024 unless and until Mitch McConnell steps down as the leader of the party’s Senate caucus.

If there is to be no filibuster of an abomination like this omnibus package, then there is no reason to have enough GOP senators to manage a filibuster.

And if the caucus has to be burned to the ground to get rid of McConnell, if he’s that selfish and the members of the caucus are so craven that they won’t get rid of him (remember, McConnell won a 37–10 election for another two years of Failure Theater in charge of the Senate minority), then so be it.

Because we’re rapidly approaching the point at which we have nothing to lose.

Morphine Mitch has an approval rating of 7 percent. SEVEN. Syphilis polls better. And not only will he not honor public sentiment by handing over the reins to someone younger and more in touch with real Americans, but he’s actively usurping the spending authority of the new House majority by pushing a spending bill that wipes out its opportunity…
