PARKER STEWART EARNS OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin guard Parker Stewart was voted as Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Stewart becomes the 20th Skyhawk to ever win the OVC Player of the Week honor and first since March 1, 2020. Today’s announcement marks the sixth career OVC weekly accolade for the Union City, Tenn. native, who had previously claimed the league’s Newcomer of the Week accolade five times during the 2019-20 campaign.

A 6-5, 205-pound graduate, Stewart averaged 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals over a pair of games last week. He shot a blistering 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the floor, including a 52.6 percent clip (10-for-19) from beyond the three-point arc. He also knocked down 85.7 percent (6-of-7) of his free throw attempts.

Stewart’s week started with a career-best 34-point performance in Monday’s 86-83 home win over McNeese. He sank 11 of his 15 field goal tries with a 7-for-10 effort from three-point range while adding a team-best seven rebounds and three assists. His 34 points are the most by any OVC player so far in 2022-23 and was the fifth in his UT Martin career (the third-highest mark in the program’s NCAA Division I history).

Five days later at UNC Asheville, Stewart tossed in 12 points (including three more treys), two rebounds and two steals for his seventh multi-steal performance in nine games this season.

Stewart now leads the OVC in scoring (16.3 points per game), three-point field goals made (2.9 per contest) and steals (2.4 per outing). He also ranks in the top-10 in the league in free throw percentage (.806, fifth) and three-point field goal percentage (.377, 10th).

The Skyhawks are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 11 when they take on Chicago State at 2 p.m. inside the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
