North Olmsted Community Council names Eve Uhland as 2022 Citizen of the Year

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — North Olmsted Community Council late last month named Eve Uhland as its 2022 Citizen of the Year.

“This is very well deserved for Eve,” said North Olmsted Community Council Vice President Beth Roshetko, who was the 2017 Citizen of the Year.

“She’s served this community for so many years and is one of the kindest people you will meet. She’s always somebody you can count on and very dedicated to the community.”

Citizen of the Year recipients must be at least 18 years of age, have lived in North Olmsted for at least five years and be a current resident.

Also, the volunteer must have contributed to the betterment of North Olmsted in at least two of the following areas: church, school, civic or recreation.

“I was very surprised,” said Uhland, a Howard Hannah real estate agent who has called North Olmsted home since 1980. “It’s just an honor to be a part of the group of the previous citizens of the year for all their remarkable work.

“I didn’t do this wanting to get the award. I just like volunteerism. It’s important to me. I met a lot of wonderful people and made a lot of wonderful friendships.”

The return of the North Olmsted Homecoming event in August will include a ceremony honoring Uhland, who joined North Olmsted Community Council in 1991.

A year later she was a founding trustee of the North Olmsted City School District Education Foundation, which over the decades she’s served as its chair of the board, president, recording secretary and student scholarship chair of the organization.

As a member of the North Olmsted Council of PTAs, she’s held leadership positions ranging from director and treasurer to corresponding secretary.

Uhland was also active in many different school PTAs from 1980 through 1998. This included at Butternut Elementary, North Olmsted Middle School and North Olmsted High School

“North Olmsted is very fortunate to have caring, committed volunteers like Eve,” North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said.

“Volunteers like her are the literal backbone of our community. The North Olmsted Community Council could not have selected someone more deserving for the honor.”
