LCCC student Brittany Kramer named among top students in Ohio

Lorain County Community College student Brittany Kramer has been named among the top community college students in Ohio.

Kramer, 36, from Oberlin, was named to the 2022 All-Ohio Second Academic Team.

She was nominated for the award based on academic achievement, leadership and engagement in college and community service.

“Brittany is a leader in the classroom and in our community. The entire LCCC community joins me in congratulating Brittany on this award,” said LCCC President Marcia J. Ballinger, Ph.D.

Kramer will earn an associate degree in real estate this May.

She previously earned an associate of arts degree and an associate degree in business administration – management.

Kramer will continue her education through LCCC’s University Partnership for a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Miami University.

A first-generation college student, Kramer originally attended a four-year university after graduating high school.

Lacking the support she needed, she was forced to drop out.

Kramer returned home, started a family and joined the workforce.

After more than a decade working for the same company, she found herself laid off and in need of additional training and education.

Kramer turned to LCCC due to the affordability and flexible class schedule options that helped her busy schedule.

“At LCCC, I’ve found the support I was looking for as I pursue my goals,” she said. “I’ve been able to give back to my community at the same time I earn my degree.”

Kramer is the treasurer of LCCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, where she leads community service projects.

She also works part-time in LCCC’s social sciences and human services division.

Off campus, Kramer is involved with the Oberlin Baseball Softball Federation, where she serves on the board and coaches multiple teams.

She also is skilled in home renovation and remodeling.

As Kramer approaches graduating and earning her third associate degree, she said she is proud and looking forward to the future as she transfers to Miami University through LCCC’s University Partnership.

“This is exhilarating,” Kramer said. “I never thought I would be able to afford a four-year degree as a single parent.

“With the University Partnership, LCCC makes the transfer simple, exciting and most of all, possible.”
