Euclid’s 4×200 team, Strongsville’s Kennedy Griffin among Ohio’s best: Top area girls

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Several Northeast Ohio girls have run incredible times and put up eye-popping numbers as the fourth weekend of OHSAA track and field quickly approaches.

An area athlete is in the state’s top five in every field event. Strongsville’s Kennedy Griffin and Berea-Midpark’s Faith Kingsley are two local long jumpers ranked in Ohio’s top five. Griffin is second with an leap of 18 feet, 2 inches, while Kingsley sits at fifth at 17-6.

Laurel’s Margaret Jones posted a 43-foot throw at the Lutheran West It’s Gonna Be Windy Meet, giving her the state’s second-best throw. Madison’s Maelyn Moretti is right behind her, ranking sixth at 41-5.

On the track, local athletes have been equally impressive. At 4 minutes, 3.77 seconds, Solon has the second-fastest 4×400. The Comets’ Greater Cleveland Conference foe, Euclid, has the state’s second-fastest 4×200 time at 1:43.30. The Panthers’ 4×200 lead off runner, senior Alexis Cain, is also ranked sixth in the open 200 at 25.39.

Gilmour’s Amy Weybrecht paces area 800 runners at 2:19.38, and is third in the state in the event. Olmsted Falls’ Katie Clute and Westlake’s Sarah Peer finished first and second in the mile at the Avon Lake Invitational, at 4:59.76 and 5:00.06 respectively. The race put the girls at third and fourth in the state.
