Aqua Ohio will be replacing 11,580 linear feet of water main serving customers in the Boardman area.

Construction for this project has just begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2022. The construction will take place along South Avenue between East Western Reserve Road and McKay Court.

According to Aqua Ohio Area Manager, Jennifer Johnson, the oldest section of this water main is about 50 years old. Within the past few years, it has experienced its fair share of breaks.

“Through our ongoing communication with Mahoning County we learned about their plans to repave South Avenue, so we expedited the main replacement to avoid digging up new pavement in the future,” Johnson said.

Crews will pave 12-inch, eight-inch and six-inch pipes along the roadway along with 21 fire hydrants and 33 valves.

During the construction, traffic will be maintained, but lane restrictions will be required, and if possible, drivers should consider alternate routes, especially during morning and afternoon commutes.

This construction will also temporarily close Walker Mill Road between South Avenue and North Lima Road from Wednesday, April 13 to Friday April 15. The detour route will be South Ave. – SR-224 – North Lima Rd. – Western Reserve Rd.

Throughout the construction service is planned to be maintained, but about 54 customers will experience short-term interruptions while their services are connected to the new main near the end of the project. Any customers who will be affected by this will be notified in advance.

The budget for this project is $2.8 million. It is part of the $6 million Aqua has planned for Mahoning County in 2022 and $27 million planned over the next four years.

Johnson says Aqua expects to spend over $50 million across its 33 Ohio systems in 2022.
