Bailey, Flashes Throwers Lead the Way at Northeast Ohio Quad


ASHLAND, Ohio – Gabby Bailey posted wins in the women’s discus throw and shot put as Kent State took first place in four of six throwing events on Saturday at the Northeast Ohio Quad.

Bailey recorded a season-best throw of 171′-2″ in the discus and had a winning mark of 51’1.50″ in the shot put. The Golden Flashes claimed the top three spots in both events. Aliesha Shaw finished second in the shot put (48′-4″) and third in the discus (157′-11″). Meghan Daly (45′-4.25″) and Grace Tennant (160′-8″) took third in the shot put and discus, respectively. Marissa Henley added a third-place effort in the hammer throw with a best toss of 168′-2″.

Jake Wickey and Nolan Landis posted victories in men’s throwing action. Wickey dominated the weight throw and won with a season-best mark of 207′-2″. Landis won the shot put (54′-3.25″) and placed second in the discus throw (170′-5″).

In the women’s high jump, Karlea Duhon and Sydney Logar both cleared 5′-4.25″, with Duhon needing fewer attempts in the competition to earn first place. Leah Pasqualetti (12′-9.50″) finished second in the women’s pole vault and Lukas Van Der Watt (16′-1.25″) took third in the men’s pole vault to round out Kent State’s top performers in the jumps.

Benja Duff was one of three Flashes who won running events, clocking a 13.94 in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. This is the second straight meet Duff has recorded a new personal-best, and she is tied for the seventh fastest time in program history. Mi’Angel Daniels was close behind at 14.00 in her outdoor season debut.

Baidy Ba captured victory in the men’s 1500-meter run with a time of 3:53.94. Jacob Mirabell (3:58.38), Joe Farley (3:59.15) and Ethan Yost (3:59.18) ran strong races to finish third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Ruby Greenwood won the women’s 400-meter dash in 56.13 seconds.

Kent State had four additional runner-up finishes on the track. Asa Hodrick ran a 10.60 in the men’s 100-meter dash, Quintin Cooks finished the men’s 800-meter run in 1:54.47, Jonah Cuestas ran 8:49.12 in the men’s 3,000-meter run and Leah Lisle ran 10:29.91 in the women’s 3,000-meter run.

The Flashes will continue the outdoor season next weekend with competitors in action at the Tennessee Relays (April 7-8) and Joe May Invitational (April 9).
