Colonel Crawford Lions, Franklin B. Walter honorees
Lions Club honors three Colonel Crawford students
NORTH ROBINSON — Three Colonel Crawford Lions Club Students of the Month were recently honored. The Seniors and their parents were guests of the Lions at their March dinner meal.
Corin Feik is the January Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Phil and Michelle Feik. Feik is a member of National Honor Society and has earned academic letters. She is a member of Young Life and LEO Club, where she is a board member. As president of her 4-H Club, Feik is also a camp counselor. She earned a first-year basketball letter and three track letters. Feik participates in Vision Show Choir, as a two-year senior choir member and has earned a two-year letter in Treble Threats. She will continue her studies at Marion Tech where has already earned her STNA license and plans to major in nursing.
The February Student of the Month is Michael Walsh, son of Michael Walsh and Ellyn Walsh. Walsj is a member of National Honor Society and has earned an academic letter each high school year. As a junior, he received the BEST award. Walsh has played football for four years. He volunteers as an umpire for minor league baseball teams and coached flag football. Walsh plans to attend the University of Akron where he will study integrated mathematics education.
Luke Lawson, son of Gary and Lesley Lawson, is the March Student of the Month. He is a member of National Honor Society and has earned an academic letter each year. As a four-year cross country and track team member, Lawson has earned a letter in each sport. He is in Colonel Crawford FFA and was the reporter as a junior. He also helps at various school and community events. Lawson has not made a college choice yet but is considering a major in forensic chemistry.
Area scholars honored at Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Program
MANSFIELD — Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) recognized 12 senior students from client school districts for their academic success, and school and community service at the annual Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award Dinner on March 8.
Three students were awarded $500 scholarships each based on their school grades, test scores, activities and an essay detailing the positive impact of one educator on their lives. The are: Matthew Gimbel, Galion City Schools; Grant Barrett, Lucas Local Schools; and Kaydence Hines, Lexington Local Schools.
Others honored as Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award nominees included Zavier Alterio, Pioneer CTC; Addyson Cox, Madison Local Schools; Abigail Hawkins, Crestview Local Schools; Jason Lin, Mt. Gilead Village Exempted Schools; Kelsey McCoy, Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools; Kaden Miller, Highland Local Schools; William Payne, Mansfield City Schools; Jack Sears, Northmor Local Schools; and Enyce Sewell, Crestline Village Exempted Schools.
To honor former State Superintendent Dr. Franklin B. Walter, the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) established the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards to promote student achievement and recognize academic accomplishment. Matthew Gimbel will represent Mid-Ohio ESC at the program in Columbus on May 3.
Galion High School Performing Arts set to stage ‘The Doctor in Wonderland’
GALION — The Galion Performing Arts department will present its rendition of “The Doctor in Wonderland” on April 1, 2 and 3. All performances will take place at the uptown Galion Community Theater.
This play, written by Don Zolidis, is a comedy about a certain BBC Doctor and his companion landing an iconic phone booth in Wonderland, where his companion is mistaken for Alice. But is it reality or a dream?
Both Galion Middle and High School students are involved in the production.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. April 1 and 2 and 2 p.m. April 7. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased with cash or check at the door on the performance dates.
