Ukrainian flag flies outside of Ohio Statehouse


People across Ohio are showing support for Ukraine as Russia invades the country causing hundreds of casualties.One way Ohio is showing that it stands with Ukraine is by flying the Ukrainian flag outside of the Ohio Statehouse, along with the American flag.”Ohio continues to stand with Ukraine,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine tweeted Monday evening.DeWine declared Sunday as a statewide Day of Prayer for the people of Ukraine in response to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.On Saturday, DeWine has directed the Ohio Department of Commerce to cease both the purchase and sale of all vodka made by Russian Standard until further notice.Russian Standard’s vodka is sold under the brand names of Green Mark Vodka and Russian Standard Vodka.The Ohio Division of Liquor Control, a division of the Ohio Department of Commerce, estimates that there are approximately 6,400 bottles of vodka made by Russian Standard currently for sale in Ohio’s 487 liquor agencies across the state.The Division of Liquor Control has directed these retailers to immediately pull Green Mark Vodka and Russian Standard Vodka from their shelves.Also, as protests against the Russian invasion into Ukraine grow nationwide and worldwide, hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Cincinnati Monday afternoon.The group wearing and carrying blue and yellow marched from Fountain Square to Cincinnati City Hall where several speakers, including the mayor, expressed pro-Ukraine sentiments and condemned the attacks by Russia.”We are asking the world to wake up because Ukraine hasn’t slept since the first Russian missile exploded on our land,” said Jane Nemic, one of the organizers of the march.Another organizer, Nazly Mamedova, told the crowd: “We need to tell them what our families are going through, and we need to ask them to put stricter measures on Russia.”
