Man killed in Brooke County shooting | News, Sports, Jobs

A man is dead and another is in custody following a late Friday shooting in Brooke County, according to the sheriff’s department.

A statement released Saturday from Brooke County Sheriff Richard Beatty identified the man shot and killed as Jules Suter of Colliers. Beatty said the shooting took place about 11:15 p.m. Friday at 94 Shreves Lane in Colliers.

“Upon arrival police and first responders located Suter who was unresponsive and began lifesaving measures to revive him,” the statement said. “Attempts were unsuccessful and it was determined that Suter had succumbed to a gunshot wound.”

The statement went on to say that eyewitnesses identified the shooter as Harley Gill of Wellsville, Ohio. Gill reportedly had fled the area following the shooting and was arrested early Saturday morning in Columbiana County. He currently is in custody at the Columbiana County Jail to await extradition to West Virginia on a murder charge.

A motive for the shooting has not been released. Beatty said the investigation remains underway.
