It’s the largest drug case in recent history out of the Franklin County, Ohio, prosecutor’s office and including 79 people indicted and more than $5 million of narcotics seized.

According to a release from the Office of Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney G. Gary Tyack, in March 2021, a drug task force began a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking within the central Ohio area.

The investigation looked into what the prosecutor calls an “incredibly complex drug trafficking organization,” which was believed to be receiving large amounts of narcotics, including cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, from several different sources.

Investigators learned the organization was receiving the narcotics through parcels from Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Then, in May 2021, the drug task force began working with the prosecutor on final parts of the investigation, which led to the indictments of 79 people.

According to the prosecutor, in total, 12 kilos of fentanyl (over $1 million in street value), 48 kilos of cocaine (over $4.5 million in street value), 3.5 kilos of methamphetamine (over $300,000 in street value) and more than $500,000 in cash were seized throughout the process.

During the investigation, one of the individuals was also indicted for aggravated murder.

“This multi-agency effort was only possible through the hard work of the law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and investigative professionals who saw this investigation through to the end. They all did incredible work to bring this organization down,” Tyack said. “Their work has saved countless lives, and will surely prevent future loss of life to the disease that is addiction.”
