U.S. News rates OHIO programs among best in the state in latest rankings


A number of Ohio University programs ranked among the best in the state in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of online programs released today.

OHIO’s online master’s in business programs (non-MBA) ranked 49th in the nation, jumping from 76th, and ranked second-best in Ohio, while the online master’s in education program jumped from 132nd to 60th in the nation, and third in the state.

The online master’s in nursing program was 51st in the nation and third in Ohio, while the online master’s in engineering ranked 63rd in the nation.

“Ohio University brings an affordable, high-quality education to its students, whether in person or online, and we appreciate the recognition reflected in these rankings,” Ohio University President Hugh Sherman said.

U.S. News also ranked several of the programs among the best in the nation for veterans, with the online master’s in education program ranked the best in the state. The online business (non-MBA), education and nursing programs were all ranked in the top 25 nationally.

“Veterans face a unique set of challenges when taking colleges courses, whether on active duty or returning to civilian life, and these online programs are uniquely suited to help them get a strong education wherever they are,” said retired Lt. Col. Terry St. Peter, director of the Veterans and Military Student Services Center.

OHIO has previously been included on U.S. News’ Best Colleges for Veterans list, as well as Military Times’ Best for Vets list and Viqtory Media’s top military-friendly schools list.

Two of OHIO’s online bachelor’s programs – business and psychology – were also ranked best in the state.

OHIO’s complete rankings are below:

  • Best online master’s in business programs, non-MBA (College of Business): tied for 49th, second in Ohio
  • Best online master’s in business programs, non-MBA, for veterans (College of Business): 25th, second in Ohio
  • Best online master’s in education (Patton College of Education): tied for 60th, third in Ohio
  • Best online master’s in education for veterans (Patton College of Education): 21st, best in Ohio
  • Best Online Master’s in Engineering (Russ College of Engineering and Technology): tied for 63rd, fifth in Ohio
  • Best Online MBA (College of Business): 88th, third in Ohio
  • Best Online MBA for veterans (College of Business): 57th, second in Ohio
  • Best Online Master’s in Nursing (College of Health Sciences and Professions): tied for 51st, third in Ohio
  • Best Online Master’s in Nursing for Veterans (College of Health Sciences and Professions): tied for 12th, second in Ohio
  • Best Online Bachelor’s Programs: tied for 116th, tied for fourth in Ohio
  • Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans: tied for 64th, second in Ohio
  • Best Online Bachelor’s Programs – Business (College of Business): tied for 40th, best in Ohio
  • Best Online Bachelor’s Programs – Psychology (College of Arts and Sciences): tied for 30th, best in Ohio
