Roane County Raider Rumble set for Saturday | News, Sports, Jobs

SPENCER — The fight card for Saturday night’s Roane County Raider Rumble, presented by Dawghouse Promotions, is set and the show features a dozen bouts.

A quartet of Roane County natives are expected to fight when action gets underway at 6 p.m. with doors opening an hour earlier.

“They’ve never had a women’s title before. She (Jess Cimino) won the Dawghouse title,” admitted promoter Mike Sheppard of the main event West Virginia amateur middleweight title fight between Cave Boxing’s Cimino and Selina Likens, who trains with Team Outlaw.

“They say it’s going to be packed. The Roane County athletic department is getting all the concession proceeds and they are doing a 50-50. I don’t think I’ve ever had an event that didn’t have a professional bout on it, but I had three lined up and they kept falling through.”

Despite not having a pro bout, there are a pair of mixed martial arts showdowns as well as 10 amateur boxing matches.

“One guy blew his knee out. Another guy didn’t get his medical stuff and another guy hurt something,” Sheppard said of the pro bouts falling through.

“Putting on one of these events is like having a baby for two, two and a half months. It’s a job.”

Parkersburg’s Chandler Owens and Morgantown’s Brett Bumar are expected to get the show started in a 170-pound MMA battle. They are both 1-0.

Spencer’s Chancee Hensley will be the first ex-Raider to fight when he takes on Cave Boxing’s Miles “Silverback” Brashir in a heavyweight match.

Parkersburg’s Matt Tennant will put his 6-2 MMA record on the line as well as his Dawghouse Promotions belt when he gives Wallback’s Nathan Gill a rematch.

Cimino carries a 5-0 record into her fight against the 6-2 Likens.

Following the main event, a 178-pound boxing match between Charleston’s Zack Canaday and Wheeling’s Victor Velasquez will precede the final MMA bout. At 205 pounds, St. Marys graduate Jeremy Pratt squares off against former Ohio Valley University wrestler Ej Lavand. Pratt is trying to go to 2-0 while Lavand will be making his MMA debut.

California native Zech Neubecker, who now lives in Elizabeth, goes up against ex-Raider Tyler May in a heavyweight boxing match where both fighters are making their debuts. Reedy’s Eric Metz also will tangle with Trenton “Cheddar Bob” Harper, who is a native of Gandeeville.

The final trio of boxing matches includes Pittsburgh’s Manny “Baby Shark” Towah (3-1) taking on Wirt County’s Garrett Parsons (4-0). There’s an all-Buckeye battle between Briar Cadle and Trevor Bell as well as Cave Boxing’s Jarrell “Shadow” Sanders squaring off against Walton’s Tyler Nichols in a Dawghouse Promotions 178-pound title fight.

Tickets are $25 at the door or fans wanting to watch who are unable to attend can purchase the pay per view at fights.platformvideo.live for $25. A limited number of first and second row tables are available by calling 304-483-5503.

“It ought to be a good night. It’s evenly matched all the way around,” Sheppard added.
