Thayer Munford says his goodbye to Buckeye Nation
When the clock ticked down to 0:00 at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, Ohio State celebrated a crazy comeback win against Utah. But the game also meant it was the end of the line for a number of Buckeye players.
Among those that won’t be back in 2022 is offensive lineman Thayer Munford. The Ohio native spent the last five years with the Scarlet and Gray, starting for three seasons at left tackle before moving to left guard for this past year.
On Monday, following the Rose Bowl, Munford tweeted out “On to the next chapter!” with a graphic that said goodbye to Buckeye Nation and thanked those that had a major impact on his career.
I would first like to give all glory to God for helping me throughout my whole career here at THE Ohio State University. The connections that I have made with everyone here made me a better man. I would also like to thank my mom for making the sacrifices that she has made for me to become the player that I am today. I would also like to thank my girl for making me into a better man and staying patient with me.
Coach Day, I would like to thank you for making our senior class feel like family. Also, thank you for sitting with me during all of the hard times that I faced during the time that we have known each other. You knowing how mental health is much more than football was what I needed in a head coach and I appreciate you for putting myself and my teammates in the position to know more about the importance of mental health.
I also like to thank Coach Stud. We have gone through so much together and we have a connection that will never be broken. I love you and your family dearly. Thank you for having the faith in me after putting your job on the line for me to come to Ohio State. I also like to thank the strength staff and Coach Mich for keeping it real with me all the time. Lastly, Gene Smith, thank you for giving me a scholarship and opportunity to come to THE Ohio State University.
Thank you for the memories and I can’t wait for the next level and can’t wait to see what it has to offer me and my family.

Next for Munford will be the 2022 NFL Draft where he hopes the abilities and versatility he showed at Ohio State will mean he hears his name called early on. Regardless, Munford accomplished plenty as a Buckeye and has many memories to look back on from the last five years.
