Ohio tight end parts ways with Tennessee, commits to Indiana

A longtime Tennessee commitment announced Tuesday that he’s now headed to another school. Class of 2022 tight end Brody Foley of Anderson High School in Cincinnati posted Tuesday afternoon on his Instagram account that he has committed to Indiana, officially parting ways with the Vols the day before Early Signing Day.

The 6-foot-5.5, 236-pound Foley had been committed to Tennessee for more than seven months. He originally chose the Vols over Indiana, Rutgers, Minnesota and Auburn, along with scholarship offers from more than 20 other schools.

But Foley told GoVols247 before announcing his commitment to Indiana that he didn’t expect to sign with the Vols. Sources indicated that they’re now unlikely to sign a tight end in the 2022 class.

Foley is ranked the No. 494 overall prospect and No. 26 tight end in the 2022 class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He’s also rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, where he’s ranked the No. 12 tight end in the 2022 class.

He had planned to arrive at Tennessee in January as an early enrollee before parting ways with the Vols. He originally committed to Tennessee on May 8, giving the Vols their fourth commitment for the 2022 class at the time, after traveling to Knoxville twice in April during the extended NCAA dead period for recruiting.

The Vols now are left with 17 commitments for the 2022 class going into the Early Signing Period, which begins Wednesday morning. The Vols still are hoping to add to their class on Wednesday, with at least a few of their top remaining targets still considering Tennessee as they prepare to make their final decisions.

Anderson coach Evan Dreyer told 247Sports’ Matt Weaver on Tuesday that Foley decided Indiana was the best fit for him because he likes the offense the Hoosiers will be implementing under new offensive coordinator Walt Bell.

“He believes Indiana is a great fit with the new offensive scheme,” Dreyer said of Foley. “The new offense is very similar to what we have run at Anderson High School.”

Foley caught 13 passes for 129 yards and five touchdowns during his senior season. He played a bigger role on defense, lining up as a linebacker, for most of the season but also served as a red-zone target for the Raptors, who finished with a 9-3 record.

Tennessee’s 2022 recruiting class, the first assembled entirely by first-year Vols coach Josh Heupel, currently is ranked No. 18 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Composite team rankings. Tennessee’s class is headlined by four players who are currently in the Top247 in 247Sports’ rankings: four-star offensive lineman Addison Nichols of Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, Ga., four-star quarterback Tayven Jackson of Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind., four-star wide receiver Kaleb Webb of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., and four-star edge rusher Joshua Josephs of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga.
