Ohio County Reports 88th COVID-19 Death | News, Sports, Jobs

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported one new COVID-19-related death in its Tuesday night update, the 88th such death in the county since the pandemic began.

That also marked the third COVID-related death the county had reported since last Wednesday. The department also announced seven new positive COVID-19 cases in the county, which brought that total to 4,354.

The Marshall County Health Department reported three new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and one new probable case in its Tuesday evening update. The department is sending people to the DHHR website for its latest totals, which were 2,484 confirmed positive cases, 901 probable cases and 76 related deaths.

There are now more than 600,000 West Virginia residents fully vaccinated from COVID-19.

According to the Department of Health and Human Resources website as of Tuesday morning, 600,343 West Virginians have received all their COVID vaccine doses. That is 33.5% of the entire state population and 40.7% of residents ages 16 and older, the eligible demographic for COVID vaccinations.

There were 715,869 West Virginians who have received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to the DHHR website.

None of the four Northern Panhandle counties were in green, the safest category, on Tuesday morning’s DHHR COVID-19 alert map, after all four of them were green on Sunday’s map. Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties all were yellow, the second-safest category, while Marshall County was gold, a rung below yellow.

Hancock County had an infection rate of 17.85 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.58. Brooke County had an infection rate of 16.93 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.38.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 16.21 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.02. Marshall County had an infection rate of 21.99 cases per 100,000 and a percent positivity of 4.53.
