Ziehmer, Jackets blank ODU in finale


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Adaline Ziehmer spun a five-hitter while Casey Bertke and Mariah Wallace belted home runs to lead Cedarville to a 6-0 G-MAC win at Ohio Dominican to close out the regular season.

The Panthers erased an early deficit to claim the first game by a scored of 9-4.

Ziehmer struck out six during her complete-game performance and aided her cause with a double.

Wallace crushed a pinch hit three-run long ball and Bertke added a solo shot for the Lady Jackets, 20-20 overall and 9-13 G-MAC.

Bertke, Sophia Hevel, and McKenna Smith registered two hits each.

CU jumped to a 4-0 lead in the opener before the Panthers roared back. Bertke and Smith tallied two hits apiece and Faith Bergner tagged an RBI triple.

Stinger Notes:

  • Bertke was 4-for-7 with three RBI in the two games.
  • Wallace’s home run was her team-leading sixth of the year.
  • Smith was 4-for-6 in the doubleheader and has six two-hit games this spring.
  • Ziehmer registered her sixth complete game and first career shutout.
  • Ohio Dominican holds a 53-12 margin in the all-time series.
