Ohio Softball Wraps Up Four-Game Series with Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (12-13, 8-8 MAC) wrapped up a four-game series with Toledo (19-11, 9-5 MAC) Saturday afternoon (April 10), dropping both games of the doubleheader. The Bobcats fell in game one, 5-4 in nine innings, before falling 9-1 in five innings in the second game. 

GAME ONE: Toledo 5, Ohio 4 (9 innings)
Toledo out-hit the Bobcats 10-5 in the first game of the day. Senior outfielder Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) led Ohio with two hits, one run and one RBI. Junior first baseman Caroline Spacek (Beaumont, Texas) registered a hit and an RBI, while junior outfielder Caitlin Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) and freshman outfielder Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) both had a double for the Bobcats. 

Ohio struck in the top of the third inning when senior catcher Brooke Rice (Mason, Ohio) scored when freshman third baseman Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) drew a bases loaded walk to put Ohio up 1-0. 

Toledo went on to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a wild pitch, knotting the game at 1-1- after four full frames. Toledo went on to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring three runs on three hits to take a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning. 

The Bobcats rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on one hit, a double down the left field line from Walker, while capitalizing on two Rockets’ errors to tie the game at 4-4 going to the bottom of the seventh. The Ohio defense was able to shut down the Toledo offense in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game to extra innings tied at 4-4. 

Toledo would take the game in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off homerun from sophomore outfielder Leah Munson, sealing the 5-4 win for the Rockets. 

In the circle, senior Madi McCrady (Brimfield, Ohio) got the start, pitching eight innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits, walked three and struck out three. For Toledo, senior Erin Hunt pitched nine innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits, walked four and struck out six. 

GAME TWO: Toledo 9, Ohio 1 (5 innings)
Toledo out-hit the Bobcats 11-2, with Englant and Paoli recording the Bobcats two hits. 

Ohio struck first in the top of the first inning with Englant scoring on a sacrifice fly, giving Ohio an early 1-0 lead. 

Toledo took the lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two run on two hits to take a 2-1 lead. The Rockets added a run on the bottom of the third, increasing their lead to 3-1 after three innings. Toledo added on in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring six runs on seven hits, while capitalizing on one error to take a 9-1 lead. 

The Bobcats were unable to get the offense going in the top of the fifth inning to continue the game, falling 9-1 in five innings. 

In the circle, junior Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) got the start, pitching four innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits, walked one and struck out three. For Toledo, junior Makenna Durieux pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits, walked one and struck out three.
