Penn State Drops Sunday Contest to Ohio State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State softball team (1-18, 1-18 Big Ten) dropped the third game of the series to Ohio State (12-7, 12-7 Big Ten), 9-0, in five innings Sunday afternoon at Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field.

The Buckeyes got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the opening frame on three hits and an error.

Freshman Melody Coombs tried to get the Nittany Lion offense to answer in the bottom of the first as she singled in the two-hole but was eventually stranded.

Ohio State added one run in the second and three runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead halfway through the game.

Another home run in the top of the fourth for the visitors got to the eventual winning score, 9-0.

Junior Chelsea Bisi recorded a lead-off double in the bottom of the fourth. Classmate Shelli Rivard came in to run for her and advanced to third, but Ohio State got the next three outs to keep the Nittany Lions off the board.
