Charles Booker ‘strongly considering’ running against Rand Paul 2022 US Senate race

Charles Booker ‘strongly considering’ running against Rand Paul in US Senate race


Charles Booker, a former Kentucky representative and U.S. Senate, candidate says he may run against Sen. Rand Paul in 2022.”I believe our work is not done and we have the ability to tell a new story for Kentucky,” Booker said Sunday during an interview on Kentucky Education Television (KET). Booker told KET he’s had numerous Kentucky residents asking him to run for office.”Whatever I’m running for, the fact that I have another little one on the way, I want to make sure I’m taking care of my family,” Booker told KET.Booker tried to make a run against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the November 2020 election. However, Amy McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot, beat out Booker in a tight race to win the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.In the weeks leading up to the election, Booker appeared at Louisville protests over the police killing of Breonna Taylor, criticized the National Guard’s presence in the city, and received endorsements from the likes of Bernie Sanders and other progressives.During the interview, Booker said he has no interest in running for Louisville mayor.“The challenges that we see in my community in the west end in Louisville as a whole, they speak to the structural challenges that we face,” Booker said.Booker says he will make an official decision very soon.
