Fort Edward power outage

The darkened corner of Broadway and East Street in downtown Fort Edward at 2 a.m. Tuesday. Power knocked out streetlights and traffic signals along much of U.S. Route 4 between Hudson Falls and Fort Edward.

High winds led to downed lines and scattered power outages throughout the Glens Falls region on Monday night.

One of the biggest outages was in Washington County, where thousands of homes in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward were without power in the early hours of Tuesday morning. U.S. Route 4 was dark from the traffic circle in Hudson Falls into downtown Fort Edward at 2 a.m., save for a short stretch in between.

More than 4,400 customers were affected, according to the National Grid website, but power appeared to have been restored to most of that area by 4 a.m.

On Monday night, the power outages included an area in Queensbury west of the Northway that affected 1,870 National Grid customers and an area near Stony Creek affecting 715 customers. Power was restored to most of those homes, but there were still isolated outages among several towns well after midnight.
