MOESC announces Artapolooza winners
MANSFIELD – Thirteen area school districts participated in Artapolooza 2021 March 20-24 at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, including Crestline and St. Bernard. There was also a selection of area artwork from the North Central region of the Ohio Art Educators Association.
Gabe Carroll from Shelby High School took Best of Show with his pair of ceramic vases. Also rounding out the top awards for the high school division were Attie Pierce, Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools – 1st place; Allegra Ruhl, GOAL Digital Academy – 2nd place; and Casey Lantz, Shelby High School – 3rd place.
Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools earned recognition for Best Display. Middle school awards went to Kensie Pitt, Crestline Middle School – 1st Place; Lindsay Montgomery, Shelby Middle School – 2nd place; and Rilyn Mott, Highland Middle School – 3rd place. Honorable Mention medals were awarded to the following: Bailey Crawford and Maddie Engler of Crestline; Jenna Abrams and Samuel Class of GOAL Digital Academy; Madison Cline, Alexia Hamilton, Jade Meyers and Kameron Stover of Highland; Sylvia S. of Lexington; Carmella Desterhaft, Thalia Kurtzman and Joseph Desterhaft of Lucas; Lydia Roggio of Mansfield Christian; Riley Kilgore, Zoey Endicott and Natalie Channing of Plymouth-Shiloh; and Makenna Miller, Trinity Potts, Paige Hoffbauer and Maddie Parks of Shelby.
Outstanding artist certificates were awarded to Amira Withrow of Discovery School, Natalie Benton of Lucas, Leah Thomas of Madison, Christian Delgado-Gayton of Mansfield Christian, Maddie Shafley of Mansfield’s Spanish Immersion, Kerah Johnson of Mansfield’s Woodland Elementary, Sophia Hamilton of Shelby Sacred Heart, Bella Britt of Shelby, and Joslin Cox and Kaylee Hoy of St. Bernard School.
Area Agency on Aging announces scholarship recipients
ONTARIO – The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. has selected the 2021 Scholarship Program award recipients. Scholarships are made possible by the annual meeting sponsorships.
Cierra Gurney of Richland County is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Malone University. Her passion for improving the quality of life for others resonates through her involvement in the community. Gurney is the recipient of the $2,000 scholarship award.
Lauren Short of Richland County is pursuing a career in the field of social work through North Central State College. She served as an intern at the Area Agency on Aging in 2020 as part of her school practicum. Her goal is to work with older Ohioans and persons with disabilities. Short is a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship award.
Trinity James of Crawford County, a nursing student at Marion Technical College, hopes to graduate with an RN associate degree in 2022. Her goal is to further her education in pursuit of a BSN at the Ohio State University. James is a recipient of a $1000 scholarship award.
The Agency on Aging Board of Trustees elected to provide one $2,000 scholarship and two $1000 awards this year to individuals who are enrolled in courses benefitting the field of aging.

Local YSU student inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma
YOUNGSTOWN – Abigail Cochran of Bucyrus, a human resource management major at Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration, has recently been inducted into the YSU chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the world’s premier business honorary:
Beta Gamma Sigma is comprised of more than 830,000 members in all 50 states and more than 190 countries. While nearly 350,000 students receive bachelors or master’s degrees in business each year, only about 25,000 are inducted into a lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma.
Crawford County resident singled out at Ohio Beef Expo Junior Show
COLUMBUS – Allison Lust of Crawford County placed ninth overall for market animals at the 33rd Ohio Beef Expo held March 18-21 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
Lust also took champion honors in the ShorthornPlus category.
Over 900 head of cattle were showcased at the expo this year.
