Alimetry Limited is a company which designs, manufactures, and markets wearable medical devices to aid in the diagnosis of gastric dysfunction.

History[edit]

Alimetry was founded in 2019 in New Zealand by Professor Greg O’Grady and Dr Armen Gharibans. The company is a spin-out of the University of Auckland‘s Bioengineering Institute. The company is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand.

Alimetry raised their first round of investment in December 2020. In March 2022, Alimetry raised NZD $16.3 million in a Series A capital raise[1]. The round was led by MOVAC and supported by existing investors UniServices, Matū Karihi and IP Group. K1W1 also participated[2].

Alimetry’s US-based subsidiary, called Alimetry Inc., was founded in 2022. The subsidiary is based in Minneapolis, MN.

Gastric Alimetry[edit]

Alimetry’s first product is called Gastric Alimetry, and it is a non-invasive, wearable device which records electrophysiological data from the stomach alongside patient-reported symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and bloating.

The output of the test is a report that clinicians can use to assist with the diagnosis of chronic nausea and vomiting disorders such as Gastroparesis.

Gastric Alimetry received FDA approval[3] and UKCA marking in 2022. The device is currently available for use in the USA, UK, and New Zealand[4].
