Eli Kretchmar ran a time of 4:22.52 to win the 1,600 for the host Granville boys track team on Friday, highlighting the Granville Invitational.
Newark’s Isaiah Potter ran a time of 39.24 to win the 300 hurdles.
Runner-up finishers for the Blue Aces were Chris Barker in the 100 (11.09) and 200 (22.12), Lane Hannahs in the 800 (1:59.46) and Caleb Wildermuth in the weight throw (127-feet-9).
In the girls meet, Granville took runner-up in the team standings, trailing just Olentangy Orange.
Caitriona Sproul, Ayla Cook, Avery Ogg and Charlotte Turner won the 800 relay (1:47.20) as did Sproul in the 400 (59.90), Kara Bergeron in the 800 (2:20.68), Zoee Lehman in the 1,600 (5:08.05) and Ella Johnson in the 3,200 (11:31.85).
Newark’s Sophie Bidwell was a double winner in the hammer throw (105-0) and discus (125-8) and took runner-up in the shot put (34-4).
Runner-up finishers for the Blue Aces were Talia Barbuto in the weight throw (95-6), Nora Carrington in the triple jump (33-7.5), Rylie Kraus, Lillian Eckels, Essie Morales-Rivera and Sophia Poling in the distance medley (13:45.10) and Eckels, Lehman, Carrington and Turner in the 1,600 relay (4:03.76).
Finishing runner-up for the Wildcats were Cadiera Gordon, Sophia Walters, Brie Gingras and Allie Schaller in the 800 relay (1:48.81).
Adelman leads Watkins
Elise Adelman swept the throws for the Watkins Memorial girls during the New Albany Invitational, winning the shot put (35-9) and discus (110-1).
Teammate Victoria Harvey won the pole vault (12-6).
In the boys meet, Andrew Kirk won the discus (141-4.5) for Watkins. Jaeden Ricketts took runner-up in the 100 (11.04) as did Adam Brazier in the 800 (1:57.84).
BASEBALL
Utica slips past NC
Tyler Collura’s seventh-inning double scored Chase Bennett to give Utica a 3-2 walk-off victory against visiting Newark Catholic in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.
RBI hits from Jordan Hartman and Gavin Chinn tied the game in the sixth inning for Utica (5-6. 2-4), and Chinn had a team-best two hits with Bennett, Isaak Wogan and Aidyn Burgess each recording a hit and a run scored. Roman Gamble struck out three in two scoreless innings in relief of Jarrett Hill, who allowed five hits.
Grant Moore and Bryan McAnally had a hit and a run scored apiece and Eli Morris and Nate Ferrell a hit and an RBI apiece for the Green Wave (5-3, 3-2). Mikey Hess struck out three in six six-hit innings.
Heath outlasts Johnstown
Kaden Green’s two-run double gave Heath a walk-off 5-4 victory in 10 innings against visiting Johnstown in LCL-Cardinal play.
Riley Baum struck out five in eight innings, and Tannar Patterson threw the final two for the Bulldogs (6-4, 5-1). Connor Corbett added a double and two runs scored and Patterson a hit, run scored and an RBI.
Cole Boroff hit a two-run double in the sixth inning and a solo home run in the 10th for the Johnnies (4-5, 2-4), and Chase Boroff and Jacob Myers added a hit and a run scored apiece and Benji Perez a double and an RBI. Clay Bruning struck out three and allowed three earned runs in nine innings.
Newark beats Reynoldsburg
Owen Poole struck out 11 in a two-hitter, pitching Newark to a 4-2 victory against visiting Reynoldsburg in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
Max Durbin led the Wildcats (6-3-1, 2-2) with two hits, including a double, and a run scored. Tyler Flint and Jayce Dansby added a hit and a run scored apiece and Austin Rose two hits.
Watkins wins at home
Trent Johnson had three hits, a run scored and an RBI, leading Watkins Memorial to a 6-2 victory against visiting Granville in LCL-Buckeye play.
Cole Massie added two hits, a run scored and an RBI, Chase Massie two hits and a run scored and Sam Johnson a hit and a run scored for the Warriors (7-4, 5-0). Chase Massie struck out seven in five three-hit scoreless innings.
Nolan Tracy had a hit and two RBI, driving in Jacob Smith and Ezra Kurek for the Blue Aces (4-6, 1-4). Cash Thomas struck out three and allowed one earned run in thee innings.
Lakewood beats Northridge
Matt Smith homered to highlight a 15-hit attack for Lakewood in a 15-4 victory against Northridge in LCL-Buckeye play at Don Edwards Park.
William Marrero totaled two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs, and Colton Ferry added three hits, a run scored and an RBI, Hayden Ferry two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Tyler Bebout two hits and two RBIs for the Lancers. Mason Sprankle struck out five of the seven batters he faced.
James Kalas led the Vikings (0-8, 0-5) with two hits, including a double, a run scored and an RBI. Quentin Felhofer added a hit and two RBIs, Noah Zigo a hit and an RBI and Alex Wright a hit and a run scored.
