Licking County softball teams deliver power surge6

DRESDEN ― Visiting Watkins Memorial softball smashed seven home runs Tuesday, two apiece by Maleya Thompson and Jordyn Wycuff, in a 17-2 rout of Tri-Valley.

Thompson hit a pair of two-run shots, went 5-for-5 and had four RBIs for the Warriors (5-0). Wycuff had a three-run and solo blast and also singled for 5 RBIs, Taylor Gerhardt added a solo homer, double and single, Kendal Tellings had a three-run homer and Cortney Dobbs a solo home run. Christina Kilkenny rapped a double and two singles.

Carsyn Cassady and Tellings combined for a 3-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Nelson, Royster star

Brooke Nelson went 4-for-4 with two solo homers, a double and single with four RBIs, while winning reliever Syncere Royster hit two-run and solo home runs for visiting Newark in a 13-10 win against Bloom-Carroll on Tuesday.

Dez Osler knocked in four runs with a solo homer and two doubles, while Alasandra Spears also homered for the Wildcats (4-3). Jaylen Jackson added two singles.

Granville romps

Visiting Granville belted four home runs and collected 18 hits Tuesday in a 12-0 shellacking of Dublin Coffman.

Megan Lodge, who struck out all six hitters she faced in two innings of relief, also led the offense with a two-run homer, double and single with three RBIs for the Blue Aces (2-1). Winning pitcher Ally Ernsberger, who struck out eight over five one-hit innings, smacked a two-run home run and single with three RBIs, while Emily Travis homered and doubled and Taylor Warehime homered and singled. Morgan Layne slugged two doubles and a single with two RBIs and Rowan Jordan doubled and singled with an RBI.

Heath falls on road

Visiting Heath managed just four hits Tuesday in a 6-1 loss to Lancaster.

Shelby Moore doubled and Renae Cunningham was losing pitcher for the Bulldogs (2-1).

Heights beaten

Kaylyn Hopf had two doubles, while Sydney Stout and Ali West added RBI singles Tuesday for Licking Heights (4-2) in a 10-2 loss at Gahanna.
