Travis Kelce throwing out Guardians home opener first pitch

A Super Bowl champion will be returning home to throw out Progressive Field’s first ceremonial first pitch of 2023.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is originally from Cleveland Heights and recently won his second Super Bowl, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch along with his mom, Donna, at Friday’s home opener against the Seattle Mariners.

Travis Kelce is a sure-fire future Hall of Famer who also recently hosted Saturday Night Live. He’s now a two-time Super Bowl champ and eight-time Pro Bowler. Donna became a national darling of sorts as she cheered on both of her sons on opposing teams in the Super Bowl, Travis with the Chiefs and Jason, who is an offensive lineman with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The first pitch — the actual first pitch — is set for 4:10 p.m. as Progressive Field again opens its doors. Entering Tuesday, the Guardians were 4-1 to open the season, which included four consecutive wins following a loss on Opening Day in Seattle.

The National Anthem and God Bless America will be sung by Norelle Simpson, a Cleveland native who recently was a part of the Super Bowl Halftime Show as a backup singer for Rihanna.

Guardians to honor drummer John Adams with jersey patch

The Guardians will also be honoring the late John Adams by wearing “JA” patches on their uniforms that feature his bass drum mallets for the home opener. They’ll also wear the patches on Aug. 24, the 50th anniversary of Adams’ debut with the drum that became the soundtrack to Cleveland baseball.
